Question

Hi there,

I will receive my Visor in a couple of days. I have an iMac DV and am wondering if the Visor is completely compatible with it. Is anyone using an iMac (or G3/G4) to sync their data and applications? Im new to PDAs, so I never transferred an app from my computer to a PDA. How does it work, can I simply download an app from the Web and then transfer it to my Visor?

Thanks, DrPepper

Cool

Works fine! I use the serial cradle at work with a G3 Powerbook and the USB cradle at home with an iMac, and both work fine. There were a lot of glitches along the way, though, including frequent crashes until it started hot-syncing smoothly.

You'll still be subject to the mysterious stops-hot-syncing problem, just like PCs. Every once in a while it just won't make a connection, no matter what you try. Just read all the other entries on this discussion board. It will drive you out of your mind! Then all of a sudden it will start working again and you'll have no idea what you did right.

But despite it all, I love my Visor! I'm a first-time PalmOS user, too.

I, too am a first time PDA user - and am connecting with an IMac. So far only once when it didn't want to hotsync - but a soft reset took care of that (explained in the materials you will get with your Visor). The downloading is easy once you get the hang of it - but what you download must be specifically designed for the Palm OS. Download - unstuff - drag unstuffed folder to Hot Sync Install box - Hot sync. That's the very brief overview of the process. Hope you enjoy the Visor - I sure do.

I've synced successfully to:
iMac (not DV -- I wish!)
G3 upgraded PMac7500 with 3rd party USB card
G3 Powerbook via serial.

They all seem to work...however, two things (among others) to look out for:
1) Hotsync want's the serial port all to itself. How this works is a little mysterious to me. There are reports here of conflicts with USB modems, but there is no problem plugging your cradle into the keyboard of your iMac.

2) I think that the iMac DV may come with Palm desktop already installed. If it does, use the Visor CD to uninstall everything associated with Palm desktop before installing the Visor version. HandSpring tweaked some things and they tell you not to use the Palm versions.

If you already have data in the Palm desktop on your iMac, copy the User data file that's buried in the Palm folder first. I think you can use it to replace the one that the Visor will install, but you might run into some username problems. Another way of dealing with this is to export your calendar/contacts/to-do's first, and then reimport them to the Visor Palm desktop.
