All of the info and hype surrounding the Visor Edge in the past week, yet little has been mentioned about the "Visor Twist". It was first speculated as a connecting cable for the springboards. However, since the Handspring traditionaly had given different names to their products (i.e. the Platinum and the Prism), the color Edge could be the Visor Twist, a color visor with a new screen technology.

Handspring, while allowing the info. of the Edge to leak, has kept a fairly firm lock on the Twist. We would never have known of the Visor Twist if James didn't do a search on web site domains. Handspring has definitely kept this ACE in their sleeve.

Supertwist not so super

To quote the ZDNet site:

"Supertwist displays are also known as supertwist nematic (STN) displays."

STN displays are those old displays that were once used when color laptops came out. After that were dual scan, or DSTN panels. This technology was not so good, and that is why people started demanding TFT (active matrix) displays.

As a point of interest, the Prism today already uses a STN display. (I know this because TFT displays never have both contrast and brightness settings).

I would much rather prefer a TFT display in my future Handspring.

I just checked some of Handspring's product info on the Prism and it says that the Prism does indeed have an Active Matrix screen.

Which I find surprising, a little, because I never thought that such a screen could have "wavy line" problems. And active matrix usually fairs better in sunlight. Oh well.

Anyway, the comment about STN not being such a hot technology is still valid.
