I have had my visor since DEC. I am a Paramedic / Firefighter. I use my visor at work as much as possible with some databases I have designed. I would like to know if there are any other EMS or Fire folks out there that are using the visor or a palm (boo-hiss) in the field etc... Thanks, Frank

I'm an EMT, but I haven't had much occasion to use my Visor. What databases do you have?

Take a look at www.epocrates.com, an excellent resource for meds, with contraindications, interactions and reactions. No charge. It's far more complete than a field guide, and is updated via the web at hot-sync. The other day I had a pt on a new med, not in our newest field guides, and a severe reaction indicated was hypotension--she was down to 70/40. Her other meds also noted hypotension as a reaction. epocrates takes about 1 MB.

I am currently using ThinkDB, I have designed a database to enter patient information, and track my skills etc... while on calls. you can find thinkDB at WWW.Thinkingbytes.com They have a demo version that only allows 4 databases to be seen, but it will give you an idea of how it works. Also there is a new program as of yesterday at palmgear.com that is called EMT Log, it is a thinkDB database also for EMS which I am demoing and will let you all know how well it works.
As for Epocrates, I could not live without it, I have been using it for a while now!! There is also a NIOSH Haz-Mat DB that is out there or ISolo, I will post the link soon but that is very nice to have. Frank

FYI, the NIOSH hazmat DB referenced previously is the "NIOSH Pocket Guide to Chemical Hazards, Palm OS Edition". You can find info at http://PocketIH.8m.com.

I work as Paramedic in Michigan. I had ePocrates installed but had to delete it for lack of space (only have 2MB of RAM ... I know, should have gotten more). A very cool program, especially when I get a patient that is on a med I haven't heard of before.

I haven't used it, per se, in the field, but I do carry it anywhere. I used to tuck into my coat pocket, but now that spring is here (I hope) there's nowhere to put it ... enter the OtterBox. Very cool "box" to store your visor (or anything in) very solid and waterproof ... like water would ever enter an EMS or Fire vehicle ;-) I won't carry on the "rig" now unless it's in the OtterBox.

I think I'll check out some of the links posted above ... is there any other software, etc. out there that EMS or FF could use?

I'm a Paramedic in New York City, as well as a Physicain Assistant Student. I currently have a Visor Deluxe with several programs on it Including Epocrates. NYC actually has a WEB site called www.nycremsco.org that lists the NYC Paramedic Protocols for both PC and for Palm/Visor users. So far this is very interesting, and potentially helpful (haven't had the chance to use it yet). Hope that this was helpful to ya.
