email address book

I don't know whether this belongs in Software or Communications, but there goes...

Does anybody know a good solution to this?

I use Outlook for email (Palm Desktop for the rest). I'm looking for a way to get my Outlook Personal Address Book (emial addresses) onto the Visor so I can email people easier. Other than manually add them to my regular address book on the Palm Desktop, I don't see a way. Are there any third party email apps that can have a separate email address book? And, is there a way to get the Outlook email addresses into it?

Thanks,

Rolando

There might be some way to export/import between the two.

Are you using Outlook or Outlook Express. I know in Outlook you can keep your addresses in the Contacts folder and that will sync with your Visor. That is how I do it now. I don't use the Address Book.

To add the Outlook Address Bood service you go to Tools:Services and then click on Add when the window comes up. Select Outlook Address Book from the list and then you will be asked if you want to designate the Contacts folder as an Outlook Address Book. Say Yes and follow the instructions.

If you already have the Outlook Address Book service installed, then follow the instructions in that window to designate the Contacts folder and to set it up to display as an address book.

I am doing the "add" part from memory, so if you have problems feel free to email me at: [email protected] and I'll try to help you.

Use Yahoo! Addresses for this. No, not for syncing, but for import/export.

You'll need a Y! account for this, of course. Make sure the Y! Address Book associated with the Y! account is empty.

First, read the directions on exporting the contacts out of Outlook 97/98/2K to a CSV file and then importing it into Y! Address here.

Next, read the directions on exporting the Y! Address Book to a Palm Desktop ABA file here.

Some of you might be asking, "Why not take the CSV export file and import it directly into the Palm Desktop?" Ever done it? Lots of mapping and by the time you figure it out, you could have imported into Y! Address and export it back out as a ABA file (in other words, the import/export from Y! Address does the mapping and converts for you).

It's Outlook 97, not Express.

But, the problem is that the email addresses are in the Address Book, not Contacts. If I could get the address book entries into Contacts, I'd be okay.

I believe Outlook 97 supports importing contents from a Personal Address Book (PAB) to your Contacts folder (which would then be contained in the PST file).

You might have to install the OL97 Import/Export Wizard to perform this function. Do a search on the Microsoft support knowledge base site on "personal address book" and "import" (or "export").

From there, since the contents are now part of the OL9x PST file, you can do any of the previously mentioned alternatives to get it over to your Visor

Now, if you're referring to the Windows Address Book (which has a file extension of WAB), I believe Outlook can import the contents into Outlook, either into a Contacts folder or a PAB. But I can't remember if this feature was available in OL97 (I know it's there for OL98 and OL2K). You have to select the "Internet Mail and Address" during the Import procedure and chose between your Contacts folder or the separate PAB file.

In the event your copy of Outlook 97 doesn't have any import/export facilities for WAB, then your last resort is to visit http://www.connectedsw.com and see if paying for WabOut or Address Magic is worth it (their demo versions won't completely do the job for you, of course).
