Thumbs up

I work at Staples to pay for my college tuition, and at todays meeting the visor came up out of nowhere. Yes, we will be carrying the visor within a week it seems.
*2mb graphite: $179.99
*visor deluxe in
graphite
blue ice
ice
green (special order)
for $249.99
*USB cradle: $19.99
*serial cradle: $24.99
*8mb flash module: $79.99
*tiger woods game: dont remember
Slim case: $24.99
bifold case: $49.99

this is great, I have a vdx graphite, convinced a coworker to get one instead of a palm v, and it looks like other people at work want one, just because its so much darn fun.

Looks like things are improving, last monday I broke my vdx by cracking the screen, and got a new one in 2 days. At no charge, and that new one was bad too it would reset on its own or not power on, so by friday I had a new one with a new cradle. I love this company!

I would have thought that the local stores would carry the two most popular Springboards, the modem and backup module? Personally I think they are more important than the flash module and definately the Tiger Woods game.

ALRIGHT!!!!! Thanks for the update! Anyone know what the best replacement multifunction or internal (can fit into the Visor) stylus is that Staples sells (for one stop shopping)?

Will they carry this online?

I agree with Riotmaker. Staples should definitely carry the Modem and Backup Module.

cvela,

Is this for real?

If your store in CA carries the Visor, does that mean that a Staples in NY would also carry it, or are inventory decisions made by individual store owners?

Im serious it was a store wide memo, I saw the skus (staples product #), and rang them up on the register to check the prices. I just havent checked warehouse availability, but it could be that the stores will get direct shipments from the vendor. I will look into warehous availability tuesday when I go in.

Question

carlos,

i noticed from your original post that the Backup module wasn't listed. Was that an oversight or are they not planning on selling it in stores?

Question

Carlos,

What's that status now? Any sight of the Visor Deluxe in the store when you went in on Tuesday?

In response to an e-mail inquiry I sent last week asking about the possible availability of the Visor on their online store:

"I apologize, but currently there is no date for when this item will offered online. It is a possibility that this item will be available in stores only.

Thank you for your inquiry,

Staples.com Website Support Representative"

Nice specific answer. Thanks a lot Staples.

As of last night, there was no Visor at the Staples in Hollywood. I'll try again on the weekend.

Unhappy

I've received word that, after a certain PDA manufacturer learned about this thread, a certain someone got "advised" by his store that a certain NDA was binding and that he cannot discuss certain information here. We appreciate his efforts all the same.

Angry

Let's just file that response from the certain company under "silly things that work against your increasing market share" catagory.

I'll echo Gameboy's thanks. We appreciate your inside info anyway.

Cool

A little birdy told me that certain employee couldn't discuss that certain product until the 27th. Hmmm . . .

Its about time that the Visors appear in stores! I wonder why they only choose Staples as their sole retailer/ Are there other retailers that we don't know about?

Lightbulb

I just got off the phone with a customer rep at the local Fry's, who told me they would have ALL handspring merchandise currently available at the web site in store and on sale on the 27th (he was kinda hush about it until he found out i was looking to purchase 200 units for my company <G> ).

I hope that's true. I was completely shocked upon reading that Handspring was going to expand it's European and Japanese when they haven't even reached the retail channels here in the U.S.:[

I was in a local outlet of that certain store in a certain upper Midwest state and spoke with the sales manager. I asked about Visors, etc. and the response was "Oh, yeah, we got a memo on that. No one knows what it is." He then went on to tell me how they have been instructed to display the Visors (an end cap covering one of their chest high shelves in their electronic area, which is one of the first places you see when walking in the store). Very good. I asked when they would arrive and he said anyday because it's for their "Spring Set" and the "Spring Sets" have to be up by April 1.

The scary part is they will have them but at least some of the employees out here in "flyover country" have no clue as to what they will have or how to sell it. I wasn't talking to some part-timer he was the sales manager.

Also, I'm wondering (perhaps prematurely) that I ordered a VDX last Monday (3/20) and haven't received a ship notice yet. Yeah, I know one week, but if all of those certain stores are going to have them by the 27th, might mine get delayed? Or have they ramped up production that much? Also, with in-store staff out here clueless, does this bode well for CS, i.e. a potentially big wave of newbies hitting them in masse, in the coming next few weeks?

Just some thoughts and don't flame because you might think I'm disparaging any certain store's employees, I'm not. The folks were helpful and forthcoming, they admitted their ignorance on the subject, which is very commendable.

Wink

I have been reading all I can in VisorCentral and decided that the HS VDX was the PDA I wanted. I always wondered when it would be retail, had seen rumors then finally this post.

So Saturday I went to CompUSA for stuff and asked one of the main PDA guys that has been there a while if the HS was coming. His reply was similar to above posts... "don't know, but I really want to get my hands on them..I could sell then all". He noted he had sold many IIIxe & Vx for those not wanting to wait.

Yep, I am one of those that could not wait and I bought a IIIxe. I love it and now have no reason to switch. As of yet there are no compelling springboards for me. Sorry HS, I loved your product, but I didn't want to wait. I guess I'll get the next Visor....
