Hotsync Problem - Ideas?
I have an XP (Home) PC with (powered) 4 port USB hub. Originally I only had a Visor Edge installed on the PC, and its installation/hotsync was fine without ever a problem. It was plugged into the USB hub.
A few weeks ago, I got a Tungsten T. I uninstalled the Visor from my user profile (on the XP) machine, and installed the Palm TT. It installed fine and would sync without problem. I plugged it into the last available port on the USB hub.
I then logged off and signed onto my wife's XP profile and installed the Edge I passed down to her. (The Edge was still plugged into the USB hub.) Her install went without hitch and could sync fine.
For several weeks, as long as the other user was logged out of their (XP) session/profile, we could hotsync. But yesterday, her ability to sync suddenly stopped.
No new software has been added to either the PC nor handheld. No changes have been made to the PC's configuration either. At best what happens when she goes to hotsync is XP recognizes the Visor and has drivers installed. But the actual connection is not happening. Troubleshooting steps done:
1. Did full PC power off/power on after virtually every step listed below.
2. Logged on her profile & reinstalled Handspring's (Palm) desktop - XP version, as was originally installed. (She is an administrator profile.)
3. Tried hotsync but still no response.
4. Checked device manager for device/COM port conflicts - none. Everything shows functioning.
5. Unplugged the Edge from USB hub into a known working USB port right on the PC. Rebooted PC. Still no luck.
6. Took Edge & cradle into work & installed on XP (Professional) PC. Installed flawlessly and would sync every time.
7. Took everything back home and ensured all connections were clean and no bent/bad connections. Also ensured Edge was seated fully in cradle. Still nothing again.
So it appears that hardware wise, nothing is damaged - either on the Visor equipment (cables, cradle, Edge itself). USB ports are functioning. Software wise, can't find a device error of any kind.
Is there a registry entry I need to look for to clear out? I'm thinking of trying the Handspring USB Clean utility, though I'm sure it'll knock some other USB device of mine out.
Thanks for your help!
