Question

I just got off the phone with the company that processes the rebates.

They have no knowledge of this rebate "department" (how they track the
rebates). The only rebate that they have in the system is the $50 bundle
rebate.

I don't think these things are going to be honored. I hope that those of
you brave enough to try it get the $200 but I can't risk shelling out $450
and not getting the rebate and then not being able to return the item
either.

Talking rebate forms

Hello--

I was INCREDIBLY thrilled to see this deal...but am also concerned that my *only* CompUSA will be out of the rebate forms by the time I get a chance to get down there later tonight.

If any of you VisorCentralites are at your local CompUSA and would like to pick up an extra rebate form or two, for my use or for another person like me, that would be greatly appreciated!!

(You know, don't steal a whole pad of them or anything!!)

Eric

Quick math question: If the offer rebates $200 and original cost is $449, wouldn't the effective price be $249 and not $299? Comp USA's web site lists cost of the Prism at $449. is it $50 more at the store fronts?

Lightbulb first pda

I had already order a Platinum from Handspring but it hasn't arrive yet. I read through this forum about the CompUsa rebate and I couldn't let it go. So i went to Compusa today and grab a Prism and then a rebate. Went to the customer desk and ask the rep if it was legit and will CompUsa honor it. He read it and say yes. You don't need to buy the Omisky modem. So i have my finger cross (pray to God) that Compusa will honor it. The prism is my frist PDA and i just love the feel and the look of it. Ppl say its bulky but damn its still small to me 8)

I wish everyone luck and myself who are going for this rebate. lol

How long do you have to wait for the rebate to come?

I am told by a shopper at CompUSA, that they arent always quick in getting you the rebatee or getting the rebate to you at all.

Exclamation

Spoke to someone at CompUSA in their Rebates/Promotions department who confirmed that the rebate form was an error and that stores were instructed to pull them.

However, she is going to call me back tomorrow after she speaks to the person in charge of corporate promotions. She indicated that they would try to make good on the error, possibly by having the store deduct the $200 from the purchase price.

How would that work? We would take our receipts and get $200 credited back? That would be fine with me. I am glad that you got the sense that CompUSA was going to try to make good despite of the error.

I mailed my rebate stuff off today-- Certified mail.

Talking rebate forms

Picked up my Prism at CompUSA tonight...very cool so far.

Also, picked up some EXTRA rebate forms...so if your CompUSA has already pulled them, let me know.

I only have 4 extras, so first come first serve.

Question Whaddaya think about that Compusa ext warranty?

I also bought one of those Prisms ... the $200 rebate sure is nice - I do hope that they honor it. BTW, did anyone also get the Compusa 2 yr extended warranty that they push? They say that they'll cover broken screens. Anyone tried this claim out for real? If it is true, then it seems like a great deal as even one broken screen on the prism would cost ~$100 just to replace. Any opinions?

(I normally don't get such useless things, but hearing so many stories about broken screens and in 1/2 yr, I'll be running around in a hospital so ...)

Well, I've gone and done it. I went and bought one. Then I told some folks at work about it. Some of them came to talk to me about it. One even told me she was considering buying a PDA anyway and that this may be the motivation she needs to get a Prism. Then I came home, and well... my lovely husband, who lavished me with a Wacom graphic tablet stylus/mouse and a portable GPS for Christmas, and who is as much a gadget geek as I am, started looking over at me forlornly. Before we knew it, we were heading out the door to get HIM one, too!

So we'll see if the rebate comes through... but I must admit this has been the most exciting reason to go out and make the big leap! My Prism is now plugged in and charging. [Oh wait! I JUST looked over, and the light has stopped blinking! Time to go play!!

Exclamation rebate forms revisited

I think perhaps VisorCentral's send-to-email function is not working well...if any of you have tried to email me about the extra rebate forms, I haven't received said emails.

So, let's try this again: if you want one of the forms, email me directly at [email protected]

So let me be the Devil's Advocate here...

...What will y'all do if you don't get the rebate?

Sell it on eBay

I would sell it on eBay for $400 or so. It's still worth it to have the product for a few months and take a loss on the sale.

- I have quite a bit of experience with rebate fulfillment... mostly because I'm a real anal-retentive person when it comes to crossing the Ts and dotting the Is. The fine print doesn't say that you must use an original coupon, but MOST REBATES do. This makes me concerned that folks using xeroxed (or scanned) coupons may be taking an additional risk.

For what it's worth, I just talked to customer server and the person said that most of the customers actually send copies of their rebates forms and that it's absolutely OK.

Just returned w/my Prism. My CompUSA didn't have the rebate slip but when I asked the upgrade center, the person told me that the rebate form was on the OmniSky modem box and showed me the box. I considered buying it, peeling off the rebate slip (it was outside the wrapping), and returning it, but didn't.

HOw long is the return period for compUSA. Perhaps during the interum there will be an answer to the rebate question. No rebate? Back to the store it goes.

My receipt says 14 days for returns. Rebate qualifying period runs until 1/20/2001. Postmark deadline is 2/3/2001.

One problem with the return scenario. If you send in the form right away with the UPC they will not (by policy) allow for a return.

Exactly, that's one reason I believe they must abide by the rebate offer. Alternativey, they can credit my credit card $200 if they don't want to process the mail-in rebates. I'll gladly show them my receipt, paperwork, and now UPC-less box.
