I love collecting interesting/thought-provoking/motivational/funny quotes, and I can see from many people's .sigs that I'm not the only one. Share some of your favorite quotes in this thread (but please limit your submissions to a maximum of three quotes -- I know, it's hard! -- and try to keep the number of lines within reason). I'll get us started off with a few of my favorites:

Millions long for immortality who do not know what to do with themselves on a rainy Sunday afternoon.
- Susan Ertz

The superpowers often behave like two heavily armed blind men feeling their way around a room, each believing himself in mortal peril from the other, whom he assumes to have perfect vision. Each tends to ascribe to the other side a consistency, foresight and coherence that its own experience belies. Of course, even two blind men can do enormous damage to each other, not to speak of the room.
- Henry Kissinger

But the best evidence we have that time travel is not possible, and never will be, is that we have not been invaded by hordes of tourists from the future.
- Stephen Hawking, The Future of the Universe

Cool

A cult is a religion with no political power. A religion is a heresy with an army

Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.
Any sufficiently advanced magic is indistinguishable from technology.
Any sufficiently low technology is indistinguishable from hard work.
Any technology distinguishable from magic is insufficiently advanced.

Conservatives should learn the difference between a sin and a crime, and liberals should learn the difference between a virtue and a requirement.

Don't forget, as you enjoy your mild spring days and peaceful summer evenings, how lucky you are to live in the temperate region of the Solar System, where the air never freezes and the rocks never melt...

For those who believe, no proof is necessary. For those who don't believe, no proof is possible.

Cynicism:
Just another excuse for under achievers. It is easier to critize others rather than do your part to fix a tough problem.

Never criticize another man until you've walked a mile in his shoes. Then when you do criticize him, you're a mile away and you've got his shoes!
