How can you utilize the shortcuts available on the Palm OS? Can these shortcuts be used in other than address book?

The shortcuts entered in the Prefs app can be used anywhere text entry is done. Most, if not all, 3rd party apps support this as well since it's a function of the OS itself.

Thats great, but how do you activate the shortcut. I know how to create one in the Preferences menu but not how to insert one. Is there a command? I am using Hanspring VDX palm 3.1 Thanks!

do a "ShortCut Stroke", followed by the ShortCut Name. ShortCut Stroke is like a cursive lower case "L".

Sorta like this, starting at the bottom left...

/\

/\
/ \

Maybe I need a better explaination but I cannot get it to work with the above description. When I write a cursive lower case L I get a greek gamma symbol instead.

Try this:

DS - This will enter the current date.

Use <ShortcutDesc> for the other shortcuts defined in Prefs.

If you enter the shortcut stroke ( ) properly, the shortcut symbol will appear at the cursor.

Talking

You must also realize that you must be in a place where it would be normal and reasonable to enter text... such as a memo or a date field or some other text field.

Most, if not all, shortcuts will do nothing from say, the main application launch screen.

Even the short cut to change battery type must be enterd in to a memo, where you will then see the corresponding text to indicate which is now selected.

Hope this helps...
