Wink

Too late, I beat you to the punch. I posted this yesterday in the General Discussion.

It's hard for me to voice an opinion of the Prism since I haven't yet seen one. But I don't expect it to be any better than a IIIc, considering the low res displays used on both devices. I don't believe color is very appealing on a Palm device...yet. When Palm bumps the resolution up to, say, 240x240 it will push PalmOS devices over the top. But right now, color Palm devices are rather primitive.

Don't write it off before you see one. I love my Prism. The color is fantastic!

Angry Fresh Gear's Review of the Prism

Visorneers...

I disagree with Fresh Gear's review of the Prism. For one, it is not "nauseating" if you look at the screen too long. Far from it in my opinion. Its easier on the eyes and there is a huge difference between the IIIc and the Prism's color.
"...the display appears pixelated, so working on the Prism is like looking at your monitor through a screen door." I agree with that comment...if you're looking at it from inches away. Its not a trinitron grade display. Think about what the display is though..its a 16 bit, color touch screen in a compact size. Currently a nice engineerning marvel.

Yea sure its expensive, all new technologies are. Palm just dropped the price of their IIIc and it was $449 when it was first announced. So what's your point? If you think its too expensive look at the other products Handspring produces. That is why there is a range of products and prices. If you're considering the Prism, find someone who's got one and take a good look at it and decide for yourself.

If you look at Fresh Gear's reviews of almost any product they almost always give them low marks. Look at the review they did on the Platinum...knocked it because it didn't include a rechargable battery and they didn't like its back light ability next to the IIIxe. I've got a IIIxe and its nothing to write home about, but a nice product nonetheless. If the Platinum did include a rechargable battery they wouldn't like it cause you wouldn't be able to pop in AAA's when traveling... just my opinion.

Yup, I saw your post after I had posted. Oh well. It just kind of ticked me off, that this review was so negative. I own a Prism and I love it. Especially the fact that I have color and SB. Yeeehaaww!!!! Try doing that on a IIIC.

Thumbs down Bad Review

As I mentioned earlier, this a bad review! The Prism is worth at LEAST a 3 stars out of 5. I am willing to bet that he only played for the unit for about 15 minutes.

Hey Foo Fighter,

Just what we need... an "informed" opinion from someone who has never seen a Prism. Sorry to hear it was so hard for you to voice your opinion. Next time save your breath.

I am an extremely happy Prism owner and I can provide these first hand observations:

1) The Prism has the best display on a Palm OS system, by far.

2) The screen would be a huge improvement over the muddy green screens even if it just displayed grayscale. It is such a pleasure to just read black text on a bright white screen, I can't believe I put up with the green screens for the last 3 years.

3) The 16 bit images from the Photo Album look like photos, not the posterized crap on the 8 bit IIIc. Zap! 2016 looks and feels like an actual video game, not a crude kludge.

5) Yes, the Prism is ahead of it's time in that there are currently only a few apps that take advantage of the 16 bit color, but all of the major developers are working on fixing that.

4) Yes, I will welcome the higher res palm screens when they come, but they are probably 9-12 months away, and I'm glad I didn't wait.

Angry palm blind!

This guy is nuts! or blind the palm 3c screen is so much worse then the visor prism its not even worth comparing. I have seen this type of antivisor stuff all over the palm boards, wow I guess the palm owners are really bent about 16bit color and springboards too.... windows ce whats that??
I was a former palm user but now I see the light Visor Prism kicks palms butt hands down.

Dan

PS>put the 3c and prism side buy side turn them on look at a 16bit color pic wow somebody was drinking rubbing alcohol last nite if he thinks the 3c holds a candle to the prism..
