 Question Sanyo 4500

Anyone have any experience with Sanyo 4500 cell phone and VDX? Supplynet has a cable for direct connection that looks pretty neat. Also interested in hearing about experience with Cingular and Sprint. Is it necessary to purchase "data service" or can you just use your alloted minutes of phone time to dial up your ISP?
