Thumbs up

I am a network engineer, and already I use my palm IIIx for alot of things, like Telneting to my AS400, or my VMS box. But what would be REAL cool is to see Fluke or someone come out with a Sniffer Springboard. One that would alow you to do everything that the Big bad Fluke sniffers do. But use teh Palm interface, instead of the bulky std. ones. If I would have that, my new Visor I ordered would become the most valuable piece of equipt. that I have. I could see it being a huge value to anyone that does network trouble shooting.

Oh... and make it inexpensive... the 10k$ Flukes..are a little out of my price range heheh
Like 500$ would be a good price

Well thats what I think atleast... hehehe

Good idea! That would seem like a great project for some hacker type. (I would find that useful myself.)

Mixed feelings on this one.

Pro- it could work. I'd love to have one.

Con- I'm a network manager, and good, cheap sniffers in the wrong hands would make network security even more of a PITA than it is now. Too many plain-text passwords and patient data floating around.

Can't be a Luddite, though. Bring on the encryption.

First, a bit of clarification, to keep our friends at NAI off our backs: Sniffer is their trademarked term for a protocol analyzer.

That said, I WANT ONE!! A Protocol Analyzer Springboard - what a splendid idea this is. As long as we're making wishlists, I'd love a network cable tester, like the PentaScanner, built into this as well.

Why not make it an RMON probe as well?

Yeh John I agree that a Sniffer(tm) would be a damngerous thing if everyone had one. But then again, you can go and dload NetXray(tm) for free (demo). If someone wants to cause some trouble they will whether you give em a nice Visor powered sniffer, or not.

I think that it would be a great thing to have in a net. engineers arsenal. and to reply to the other post, yeh a Pentameter would ROCK!.

Actually while we are at that, why not a fluke Multi-Meter spingboard??? one that youc an measure the std. things like Ohms, V, A etc...

That should be very easy to build. Hmm... someone should call Fluke and ask em if they want to get into this field (the only reason I am so Pro-Fluke is cause I think they are the best stuff on the market... but any vendor that makes a good Springboard for this stuff would rock!)
