I received my GVD yesterday, withing the 4 to 6 weeks as promised. After reading all the posts in the board, was wondering what I would find. I could not me more satisfied. The screen is great, the stylus is fine, the buttons are fine, the construction is fine; I have no complaints.

If you are thinking about getting a Visor, I would take all the complaints (except the customer service ones) with a grain of salt. Although they may be valid complaints, I think they only represent a very small percentage of Visor owners.

By the way, I have had no dealing with customer service.

Thanks for the encouraging words, danny. The messages on here can be a bit daunting. I ordered a BVD on 12-8 and hope I have the same kind of luck that you did.

I'll second what danny said. Great product! Handspring shipped in 5 weeks + 2 days, so that's acceptable -- I _was_ getting anxious after reading some of the posts here, however... I used a c/o line and wasn't sure if it would arrive. I'm still missing the case I ordered, but I'll give it a few more days.

The screen is perfectly straight and centered, the stylus has no noticable tip that would scratch the screen, and everything worked as-advertised on the first try.

The screen is a little "soft" compared to what I've used in the past (demo units in stores)... but I'm almost completely used to it and I don't mind that much. Writing w/ my Cross stylus is extremely smooth and, while I'll probably get some WriteRights, I'm not worried about scratching my screen at this time.

I've got plenty of memory, but I plan to fill that up soon!

Talking

I would bet you that the bulk of Visor owners are satisfied. All you read here are the complainers who want to make a lot of noise. Out of tens of thousands of shipped visors, the few complainers on here can in no way be indicative of user satisfaction.

Include me. I love it, I cant compare it to any other devices, cuz this is my first PDA. I love this thing. I hope that the springboard technology takes off and becomes a well known device!

I like the "soft" screen better than the Palm screens

When VC did a poll a few weeks ago about whether users liked their Visor more than the Palm organizer they had, ~90% said they like the Visor more.

Angry

Let's see, am I just a complainer?

I ordered over 10 weeks ago.

Handspring charged me a month ago.

I finally got the merchandise I had paid for only after multiple messages to the CEO.

Problem now is that the unit they shipped me proved to be defective right out of the box.

They claimed I'd have an RMA within two days. Five days later, I still don't have a replacement. But I do have plenty of promises.

The situation has left me admittedly bitter and determined to spread the word of Handspring's incompetence.

Should you pay attention to me? I don't know; I might be just a complainer.

As I was reading this string I was begining to feel better about my purchase of the Visor (4 to 6 weeks give a lot of time for buyers remorse). THEN I read the last post. OY, now what?

Well, I guess I will stick it out and see for myself.

In my business I ship 1/2 million pieces a day. We rarely get a letter saying GEE what a great product! but the less than 1/100 of one percent that receive a defective product, WOW do they ever write to you! I hope the same is true in this case. (fingers, toes and eyes all crossed)

regarding complaints, like I said in my first post "except the customer service ones" I have not had to deal with customer service...yet. I hope I don't have to.

Cool

Hopefully that last post doesn't worry SpiceEmUp. If you read what I said, I mentioned that a few discontent people doesn't equal tragedy for everybody who orders--just that they are very vocal. I am currently going through a customer service nightmare with Logitech over a defective product I got new out of the box. They proceeded to send me a new one that was also defective. While I am not happy with that, I'm sure the millions of other logitech users would deny that they are in any way a "failing" company. Sorry MarkEdwards--I'm happy and so are a lot of people--sorry for your misfortune... and I hope you get your new Visor soon...

Thumbs up

I just received my Graphite VDx a few days ago, and I am also 100% satisfied. It
came in 4 weeks 1 day, and when I talked to customer service, they said units were
shipping in 3-4 weeks now. So, it does seem as though Handspring's ordering
systems is starting to function properly.

I do believe that the complaints I see on here, if true, are justified. One person that
works in my office ordered his in September and still hasn't seen anything but a free
case they sent him.

My Visor has functioned flawlessly since I received it. I have had one crash, but I
learned that it was just from installing too many apps at one time (don't do that keep
it below 5). The same thing happens with my friends Palm V.

My stylus 5 pack came the day after my Visor (I ordered it one day later as well),
and I feel it is far superior to the stock version (which isn't bad). It makes the Visor
experience that much better... ;-)

A coworker and I were comparing the Visor and Palm V (I am surrounded by Palm
V's all day at work). The only thing I like better about the Palm V is the Flash
ROM, and style. The visor has more memory, and the back light totally dominated
when we went in the back room to compare. I don't know what I would do with
only 2 megs. I have had my VDx for 3 days, and already have 2.5 megs worth of
stuff on it.

Now, I am just waiting for my backup springboard to show (ordered about a week
ago), and some other springboards to be released. I am really interested in the six
pack, gps, and the think outside folding keyboard.

GO HANDSPRING!!!

Hey Markedwards,
You're not a complainer. You just got hit by the odds on the wrong end of the stick. It just seems that people (like me) who have had a great experience, so far, with their Visor and Handspring, aren't as vocal as those people(like you) who have had a genuinely crappy one. Don't take it personally, I have never won a contest or a lottery in my life. When you do get your replacement Visor I hope that your experience changes from being pissed and peeved to being satisfied and serene.
Good Luck!

Product: 100% great

Service: They get a 5 on a scale of 1 to 10.

I've read WAY too many complaints with way too many common stories to think that the customer service at HandSpring is at all reasonable. In the first place, How could anyone start a hi-tech business with on-line sales and then expect that a 4 to 6 weeks wait would be acceptable? If I order from Amazon I get my stuff in a few days (even this close to christmas). When I ordered my RhinoSkin case I got it the next day. This is what the customer should expect.

However, now that I have my BVD (Ordered Oct 18, recv'd Nov 16. Only 4 weeks) I love it. As one of my interns told me "The dullest pen is better than the sharpest memory". The Visor is my memory.

I'm also amazed at how many e-Books i've read. I'm finding that it's my favorite way to read. Whenever I'm alone at lunch or stuck waiting in a line I always have a good book handy.

But right now my Visor's alarm just went off remiding me to call the cement company to order 11 yards of pre-mix to pour a foundation for my new workshop. I'll just pop over to the memo pad for my list of Cement companies that my contracter suggested and once I have a confirmed time I'll pop over to the phone list to get my contracter's pager number so I can let him know when we need to do this.

Also in my Visor is the names and phone # of the building inspectors, the dates that they'll be inspecting the workshop, and notes about the inspectors themselves (Bob plays a red Ibanez Destroyer guitar. I build guitars for a hobby. Now the inspector and I have something in common to talk about. I think he treats me a bit better because I remember his interest).

Meanwhile, I have notes from work about changes I have to make to the software I'm writing. I have e-mails discussing the latest installation for the Navy over in Bahrain.

Also, I see that on my way home from work tonight I need to pick up some walnut stain for the rocking horse I'm building as a christmas present.

So Yes! I'm happy with my Visor. I knew it would be useful, but I had no idea how useful it would become. If HandSpring's customer service ever becomes as top notch as their product line then they'll rule the PDA world.
