Going way off topic...
While lamentable, I think it is a direct result of the overabundance of men in both technical fields/technical sites. (ie Slashdot) Literature is designed for its audience...however, if we (as a community) wish to change that fact, we need to work on making both web and workplace more accessible.
I don't see anything inherently wrong with a majority of technical people being male. The notion that the racial or gender makeup of any profession, position, or place must mirror the national census is one I reject. But this is what we are now seeing, the so-called "digital divide", liberals are now suggesting that there should be some sort of government-sponsored internet affirmative action. Remember the NAACP's threatened boycott of the major networks? They all substituted casts at the last minute to avoid the potentially devestating impact it could have had. I hope such a move for ISPs to offer lower prices to women and minorities does not happen.
