I've not seen this one before, so I thought I'd see if anyone else had seen it.

I was using my Prism today, opened to a Memo Pad. I set it down, and then went to picked it back up and my 2 minute timer had powered off the system. Ok, no problem. The problem was, it wouldn't turn back on. Nothing, not the power button, not the hardware buttons, a soft reset didn't help.

So, I came back to my office and set it down in the sync cradle and turned it on. This performed a hard reset... So, I use the backup module, restore it. Add a few more bits of data that I had lost, went to back up, completed the back up, went back to apps, pulled out the backup module and whapo! another lock up and another hard reset to clear!!

This is getting just silly. I dunno if this unit just has some issues, but I've been backing up to the module twice a day, because I'm afraid of another hard reset.

Handspring is leaving me a little unimpressed with this unit thus far. I love the color, it looks great, but is this new OS stable?!?!

I've had some issues with some software in the past, Launch'Em being a big offender, but the thing has been running stable for a few days now that I stopped messing with it heavily...

Oh well, anyone seen this reset yet?

What I find interesting is that at first you said you could not power the unit on, but then when you put it in the cradle then you could. My question is, was the battery low ?

Nope.

My battery was at approximately 60% charge or so. So, it certainly wasn't dead, by any means...

Unless my battery is now failing for some reason...

It's been running fine since, and I've not fully recharged it.

Unhappy

I had the very same problem with my second Prism--after a full charge. My first Prism wouldn't charge at all. Now on my third. I love the thing, but have some concerns about the digitizer/graffiti recognition, and the "stability" of the OS overall.

I've been experiencing a random power off with my prism too. The first occurance happened soon after the initial charge, with just a fresh os and digitizer settings.

It happens at least once a day now, for the past week, and I see no pattern. It doen't mattter if I have the prism loaded with apps or not. Also, charged full or or drained, the same thing happens. The unit mystically shuts off where a hard reset does nothing and the power button is useless.

Only putting the unit back in the cradle turns it back on, causing a hard reset. This is past just silly...

Handspring issued me a RMA for exchange, but is being overwhelmed with replacement requests for the prism - so the 1 to 3 business day delivery quote has turned to 8 days.

Hope the replacement doesn't have the same problem

Angry

I just got an RMA issued for my Prism today. Mine would not even turn on when putting it back in the cradle. I have to push in the reset button to get it going again and this was hard resetting the Prism. I have only had it 2 weeks and this started happening 2 days after I got it. On top of this, the graffiti recognition is HORRIBLE! Hopefully my replacement will arrive shortly with no problems! Am I dreaming?

Question for all...

Hi,

I've read all of the posts so far and I have one question. Are all of you upgrading from a VDX using a Backup module to restore your applications to the new Prism?

I found that some of the applications that I had on my VDX just didn't work on the new Prism. First of all, I was using Battery Panel on my VDX and when I restored that to the Prism, the device would not boot up. I would just get an error message with the Reset button on the screen.

After removing that from my VDX, backing up and then restoring on to the Prism, I found that the Prism would boot up but I was finding that the Prism would still crash.

I decided to do a hard reset and install all my appications one by one and everything seems to be working fine.

Regards,
Ron

Okay -- I am very confused. Setting the Prism in the sync cradle and turning it on causes a hard reset?! Or only causes a hard reset if the prism isn't working?

I thought a hard reset was pushing the reset button at the same time you pressed down on the power button. (You can tell I'm not a techie, can't you!)
