Exclamation Yada's Not Dead Yet!

Greetings everyone,

This afternoon I got lucky when someone named Eric answered the phone at Yada. (He's the same person who left the new outgoing message that you guys are referring to.) He said that Yada is definitely NOT going out of business, and fully intends to continue service; though they are having major problems today.

I made him aware of this thread and that many are under the impression that Yada is going under. I stressed to Eric that Yada needs to make a public statement SOON; whether it's via email or on their website, and he agreed. He said that he'll pass my message on to his superiors asap.

I also made him aware that some of you have already initiated contact with Omnisky and that Yada better act expediently before they lose any further customers.

To those of you who have already called other services: BE CAREFUL! If Yada is truly not going under, then your hurry to sign on with the competition may leave you stuck with commitments to two contracts.

Eric did say to please bear with them while they correct today's glitches.

Only time will tell...

I got online with OmniSky today - yesterday Verizon's network was having trouble. It took the tech some time to find a good IP, but it took YY's tech at least as long. The so-called browser is useless so far - back to Blazer...I never did get it to work, but the email feature is fine and connected to my ISP POP3 easily. The modem sometimes crashes my Visor, which it did not do under YY. I do like OmniSky's more professional approach, assigning a Case Number to follow the issues, very quick response when I called Tech Support and a more active web site. I'll reservbe judgement on the service until I test it more fully. Since I signed on for only one month, using my free modem, I have no real concerns if it does not pan out...

Have you run the flash updater from your ISP( yada yada or Omnisky) again?

Lowtech,

I'll be curious to know your findings. Please let us know of your feelings toward Omnisky; particularly if any aspects of the web that were accessable via Yada are not accessable via Omnisky... Also, does the Omni browser support color?

Thanks,
-cnegrad

Yada seemed to be down in Seattle today. Tonight I can get on the web with it, but it's kind of hit or miss. One minute I'm ripping along at a pretty good clip, the next I've lost the connection, then I'm back, then I'm off again.

12:30 am 4/19/01 - I was just able to connect for the first time in about a day and a half. I'm feeling better already BTW, I'm in the LAX area.

See, I think this thread is VERY important. I was about to call Verizon the moment I couldn't get a signal, and last night I was out in Chicago. So I was planning on calling Verizon just to price out.

So Eric (the same person who told me he would call me back numerous times) said that they are still in business. Good, I want to remain with YY. I don't want to pay for roaming or extended use fees.

But, in this era of blowouts with companies, could he just be tried to instill some hope back in their subscribers just like his supervisor told him?

Hmmmmm. I'm in the same area and couldn't get on. I'm getting a #4 error - "Modem gave insufiicient authorization credentials." Anybody know what this is?

Unhappy

Still nothing here in Queens, NY. I don't want to try installing version 4 of the YY software until they've got service up and running again. I hate trying to troubleshoot two problems at once....

Has anyone considered switching to GoAmerica if YadaYada goes down in flames? Omnisky won't work with the Visor Deluxe, but GoAmerica says it will. Plus, they no longer say they charge extra if you use something other than their browser and email software.

I would try the GoAmerica $9.95/month plan for 25k, $.1 for every additional 1k. I don't use my YadaYada account that much, and wouldn't mind turning off graphics.

I've been getting good connection here in Northern Virginia with YadaYada this week.

Brad

Good move on your part. I made the mistake of doing it last night. Now I can't get my Visor to recognize that the modem is even plugged in. I know the slot is ok because my MiniJam works fine.

Arghhhh! This may require a hard reset - thank god for the backup module and backup buddy.
