Cool

Hi All.
Since I asked some questions a while ago, I would like to update you on my progress to mobile cyber-nirvana courtesy of a VDx and a siemens mobile phone.

1. OK, I got the Visor on a business trip to the US. (not available in the UK yet)
2. I then got a siemens S25 mobile with buit-in IR Modem. It's a nice phone.(these are really cheap at the moment, since they have just been superceded - I got a pay-in-advance deal at Vodafone retail)
3. I got IrLink software from www.iscomplete.org to let them talk to each other (and also lets me hotsync to my Laptop via IR)
4. I got GSMtool software to let me sync address books between the mobile and the VDx (it is a little wierd, but read the readme and all is explained) and compose SMS messages on the VDx. - no more pecking away at a numeric keyboard!!
5. I got the free WAP browser from www.mobileID.com
6. I configured the phone to use UDI dialling so it uses a all-digital link via the Vodafone network and ISP (dials much quicker..saves money)
7. I registered for the vodafone interactive service, so I can send SMS-to-email and receive email-to-SMS (you just put ALL of the message in the subject line of the email).
8. I 'borrowed' the WAP configuration from the vodafone Nokia 7110 instructions and can now connect using the mobileID microbrowser to the Vodafone WAP service.(not much interesting to do there yet!!)
9. I signed up for avantgo, and can synchronise via the mobile.

So, that's about it. All works great. I can send and receive email via SMS, I can surf Avantgo and WAP content, and in due course if I want to I will be able to do POP email too.

Oh, did I mention that it was all PAINFULLY SLOW at 9600bps?
Never mind...3G will be here soon.

Seeya

Smile

Hi,
it's really cool, yesterday i could even browse the web and send and receive emails with a Nokia 8210!
It's really slow, and the Nokia is a little bit expensive, but it's the greatest!
Try PaPi-Mail (www.ses-soft.com/papi) for POP3 or IMAP, and Proxiweb (www.proxinet.com) for browsing the net. They are superb.

Here you can find an article 'Online with Siemens S25' in German: http://www.palmconsult.de/forum/dfue/s25/
