I've been plagues by phantom appointments lately and fatal exceptions during hotsyncs, so I finally did a full, hard reset. And this time, like every time before my memory contents were wiped, I got a full restore on my first hotsync! Why?

I mean, my preferences were restored. My third party application preferences were restored. My third party applications themselves were restored. Everything is back to normal.

I thought a hotsync only backed up data for built-in apps, and thus, that is all that would be restored. When did all of this start happening?

BTW, I still get a fatal exception when I hotsync (leading me to believe its something I have installed). How can I wipe EVERYTHING out and prevent it from being restored so I can start from scratch?

I think you're the first person that complained because HotSync did restore everything.

If the backup bit is set for a program, HotSync will back it up.

As for the fatal exceptions, you may want to check your HotSync log to see if there are any errors.

Expounding on James's response....simply delete or (preferably) reNAME your backup folder and nothing will be restored upon the first hotsync after a hard reset.

In progress...

I'm currently doing this. I'm installing things a few at a time to look for things to lock up, and doing so alphabetically.

I first thought I encountered it in the "A"s, but I couldn't reproduce it. Now I think I may have it nailed down to the contrast panel that comes with PalmTheme Pro, but I'm still testing.

I'll keep this disucssion up to date.

Re: In progress...

I've now reproduced the problem with the Contrast Panel from PalmTheme Pro.

When I installed it, along with others, the fatal exception at the end of a hotsync appeared. When I deleted it, it ceased. I re-installed it and the exception started happening again. I've now deleted it once again and have gotted rid of the problem.

I'm going to continue to install the rest of my apps, skipping over the Contrast Panel for PalmTheme Pro.
