Memplug

Just bought a Memplug from CompUSA, apperantly I can't use it like I do my 8MB flash module, I can just store books and movies on it. Too bad I don't have at least a Platinum. Anyone know of any 3rd party applications that will allow me to use this like the 8mb module?

Hi,
Go to the Memplug website and under third party solutions download the Launcher III program. It allows you to put programs like games onto the memplug. You need to install the program and run it once on the visor first and then move the program to the memplug. It has directions of where to put the programs. It will copy the programs from the card into RAM automatically and then delete them when done. It works well for smaller programs.

Also on the memplug website download PiVFS manager. It is a beta program but will allow even a plain visor to run some programs that are VFS compliant off the card. There is a compatibility list. It is still a beta program but it works pretty good for me. You need to follow the directions. There is also a program called PowerRun that is available on Palmgear that will let you run more programs off the card in conjunction with PiVFS but it was pretty slow and had a noticeable lag time when starting larger programs. But I have hope things will improve since these are first generation programs or even beta.

Question to you-Does the smartmedia card still stick out the top of the memplug?

HTH,
Brian

Thanks fot the info, but I can't answer your question, I got the CF one, although the VC review states that the SM sticks out about 1MM.

Wink New Memplug

They came out with a new version of the SM Memplug. In the new version, the bumps on the back of the unit are gone AND the SM card now goes all the way flush into the unit. I got mine early summer.

Mine is the original MemPlug and I got tired of it sticking out. So, I cut the top of the SM Card off to where it is flush with the MemPlug. I still have to deal with the two bumps on the back, but this is much better.

It is just plastic, so you can not damage the card doing this. And, the card can still be removed from the MemPlug, as it has the recess in the back.

Just thought I would mention it, as it is a simple fix.
