One day my hotsync is working fine, with my Prism via the USB.

Then all of a sudden when I go to hotsync, it finds my Handspring Device as an Unknown USB device and wont sync.

I do the soft reset and all to no avail. It is like it forgets where the driver is located. The only way to get it to work again is reinstall the software.

My computer stays on all the time, so I rarely reboot it.

Anyone else seen this problem?

TIA

I'm running Win2k and never had this problem happen to me. The only thing I can think of is that the cable might not be plugged in loosely and it thinks it's a new USB device every time. If you find that you need to reinstall the software, maybe it's only the driver, which can be found in ...\Palm\drivers. If all else fails, try rebooting. Like a soft reset, that usually fixes most problems.

Unhappy Lost Visor USB under Win2K

I've been experiencing this problem myself with my Visor Deluxe. Similar symptoms, too. My machine's on all the time, and yet all of a sudden, I'll have NO Visor detected via USB. Only way to fix it is to uninstall the drivers, reinstall the drivers and hope.

Wow. I am experiencing this problem right now. I think it's because I tried syncing POSE and switched to checked local serial and unchecked local USB. I will try to reboot and see if that clears things up. Good luck to others.

We've had this problem when changing from a direct USB connect to a USB hub connect and back.

UPDATE:
Got the error message. Installed drivers like it asked. Tried to HotSync but it asked for the drivers again. Rebooted and it worked!

Question No hardware changes

I wish I could trace this problem to changing hardware or something similar. Unfortunately, it happens with no changes in hardware whatsoever. Reinstalling always seems to work, but it's a PITA.

You might want to try unplugging the cable and plugging it back into a different USB port.

Cable

Thanks, but that's what I tried the first time it happened. It was no help.

I have seen this a few times, and it was fixed with a reboot. This is no big deal for me (it's a laptop). I notice too that it seems to happen when the machine comes back from Standby.

Exact same thing happens with me too, and my pc is usually on 24/7. A reboot has always solved the problem though.
