This is all guesses, so take it as it is offered.
Thought 1. This is a very old device, in handheld terms. It may be that some components are just wearing out. As the first thing to go in ANY device are the moving parts, I would suspect the button board. It may be something as basic as the on/off switch going bad (hmm, is that on the button board?)
Thought 2. For the most part, most parts are going to cost you more (including headache and false start time) than a 'new' (refurb) Visor will, and I am reasonably sure this is a part/hardware issue.
Thought 3. I DO have an old PDA that you might be able to mine for parts. It is a Visor (the 2Mb version) inside of a blue Neo shell. Except for the minor detail that the screen is busted, it is in great condition. The button board, case, and many other components are interchangeable.
I think I'd swap the screen only first make a 'new' PDA from my parts and your screen. If it works, I'd try your screen and guts, with my button board (so you can get your 8mb memory back)
Now- my Visor is probably older than yours, but I'd bet it has been used a lot less! If you are interested, I'll sell it to you for $5 including shipping. Let me know at '[email protected]'
