OK this might sound pretty obvious but i made the mistake so i'm sure someone else out there might too.

I was on a three day high school senior trip and we were having a scavenger hunt. One of the items on the list was a AAA battery. In a hurry to get all the items on the list and win the scavenger hunt, i removed one of the AAA battereis from my Visor. A half hour later i replaced the battery and was greeted by a wiped-out visor containing none of my phone numbers, todo's, or memos, and none of he games i had installed on it, it didn't even know the time and date!

Luckily it was a short trip and when i got home i synced and my info was replaced.
But just imagine, i could have been a business man at the start of a long important business trip. I remove my Visor batteries for 20 minutes because the ones in my GPS are dead. When i put them back - all of my important appointments and memos are gone! I'm screwed!

So let this be a warning to you.

My Visor was wiped clean after about one minute or so. (Definitely less than 2 minutes.)

Interesting... mine takes about 20 minutes before the memory is wiped out.

The Quick Reference Guide advises to replace batteries within one minute of removing the old batteries.

To avoid a hard reset, I'm sure it's best to be cautious. But yesterday I _needed_ a hard reset and had great difficulty achieving one, even with the batteries removed for several minutes at a time.

Immediately after an alarm rang, my Visor Dlx displayed a soft reset message. I pressed the on-screen button and was taken to the Palm opening screen, at which point everything froze. I could not even shut down with the on/off button.

Eventually I got a hard reset and restored with Backup Buddy. The unit again froze. After another hour or so, I was able again to hard reset. This time, I had deleted the last hack I had added--the 69 key keyboard--from the backup folder and again restored with Backup Buddy. So far, so good.

But I'm still concerned, and my call--during the first problem--to technical support was on hold for about 35 minutes when I had to give up.

guberman, in the 35 minutes that you were on hold for tech support, you can fix it yourself by removing the batteries out of the Visor for at least 25-30 minutes. What this will achieve is a *completely* hard reset to remove any remaining code in the memory by totally discharging the memory capacitors.

I change rechargable batteries in my Visor once a week ieven if I don't need to. I have NEVER lost data. (That's about 9 battery changes so far)
