HS implies sticking with Springboards and Visor line?

I saw this on HS's website in the FAQs on the Treo 300. It implies that the Visor is their expandable product. Makes you wonder if it's going to be around.

Q. Will Springboard be added to the Treo 300?
A. No. In order to maintain its compact size, Treo was not designed with Springboard expansion in mind, and therefore, we will not be adding a Springboard expansion slot to Treo 300. If there is sufficient customer demand, we would consider adding expansion technology to Treo communicators over time. While Springboard isn't a priority for this particular line, we still see Springboard as a great benefit for our Visor line, which will continue to be our lead product for people looking for the best possible expansion platform.

Q. Does Treo 300 include SD, like Treo 90?
A. Treo 300 does not include an SD expansion slot. Our Treo communicators already include many of the features typically associated with expansion, such as wireless capabilities and larger base memory. We do have a full family of expandable Visor organizers and Treo 90 for those who want expansion.

Smoke gets in your eyes....

"...we still see Springboard as a great benefit for our Visor line, which will continue to be our lead product for people looking for the best possible expansion platform. "

Continue to be our lead product? Right, that's why the Edge and the Prism, the two premier models in the Visor line are "No longer available from Handspring.com"

That's why Office Max, Target, Best Buy, CompUSA, and most other retail stores either no longer carry Visors or are clearancing the remaining stock and springboards they did carry.

If Handspring is doing an about-face on Visors and Springboards it doesn't seem that any one else in this marketing channel knows about it (or believes it).

Myself, I think HS is just blowing smoke to help get rid of their remaining stock of unsold Visors and to help their retailers who they hope will push the Treos for them.

Or maybe.....(hey, let's start a rumor!)...a new Visor Prism II is in the works, 32 MB RAM, Palm OS 5, integrated eyeModule3, SpringBlaster Sound system (mono speaker, but stereo headphone jack), Modular/Replaceable LCD screens (TFT Color, or Greay-scale Backlit) @160 X160 pixels, and of course the Springboard slot, but with new optional available CF and SD device adaptors. And this time the speaker actually works!

OOPS!

I actually meant to say 320 x 320 pixels.

160 x 160 would not be an improvement, would it?
