Not sure if anyone was waiting on the Arkon Parafone, but...

The Parafone is currently available for pre-order at Amazon. Another mildly surprising tidbit I noticed was that 4 of the top 5 selling springboards at Amazon are MiniJams.

You know, considering I am about to get a Cable Modem and start working from home several days a week, this just might come in handy. Used with the Hands Free Headset and all my numbers in the phone this could be a great little gadget. Have my Visor with me more than my phone anyway.

Thanks for the tip Toby. Where is BKBK when you are offering useful information?

I'm actually waiting for a review unit on that one. I talked to them like in May about it.. but I haven't said anyhting back.. I probably should. It's a very cool idea, and I hope it lives up to it's promise.

Now I have a question. Say I dial my ISP using that. Could I surf the web wirelesssy in my house off that phone connection? That would be awesomer beyond dreams.. And really make sence connecting the two!

Now that makes for an interesting, but unlikely, idea. If I am correct the phone would have to have the properties of a modem, in that it could convert the data back and forth. Can someone with a bit more knowledge speak to this?

Hey, this my 99th post. One more to a hundred. WooHoo.

That's scheduled to be released by the end of the year. Their site has some irritating use of flash, so I can't give you a direct link, but check out the G24 on this page.

Ok.. just to update all you patient folks

I've been talkign with their PR people.. (sad aint' it.. )

And they tell me a couple of things.

The cradle/charge they ship with the parafone is only compatible with the Vdx seris, but you can charge the device with a Edge cradle (if you have an edge) or a Prism cradle without any problem. Their software is not in color, but it is sharp black on white This product wasn't really designed for the Prism it sounds but oh well. The SB is compatible with all visors.

Their too intial retailers will be Amazon and Palmgear (egh!)It's MSRP is $119, but amason sells it for $99. They are workign with several brick and mortar stores so jsut be patient. It seems to be a very intresting module coolio!

That might be interesting. Wonder how I could incorporate that into my home office to be able to work from any room in the house directly off my Visor? There is really no telling what is coming, especially once High Speed Internet access becomes as common as normal Internet Access.

Vdx? only with the deluxe? does that mean it's not gonna work with the plat or the solo, which have the same form factor? that doesn't make sense to me... you sure you're correct about that?

I apologise for hte misconception. It only works withthe Visor's in the Deluxe FORM FACTOR which means that a Visor Solor, Deluxe or Platinum will work with the cradle. The module works with everything.

Too weird. They've taken it down evidently because I can't find it either. I originally found it by looking through their available SpringBoard modules (not in that list anymore either). Another thing that seems to have changed is that now that the Magellan is back in stock, it's their top selling springboard. *shrug* Maybe Arkon's date is slipping or something, and they took it down until there's a definite ship date.

I don't think Arkons date is slipping.. Its still schedulded to ship in august peopoel tell me. Bad news though. It seems that Arkon has cut all corners to try to make this $100. It has no flash memory! a SB with no flash! it will never be upgradeable to color

Flash

If the module installs the software on the Visor when inserted, then it has FLash Memory and can be updated.

No, yardie Does the Visor have flash memory? no. it has ROM. but the applications can still run! you see? The Parafone has ROM, containign all the apps. The image of the Rom was "burned" intothe ROM, and can't be changed. YEt it can still isntall apps onto the Visor. Probably cuts $5 off the cost of the module.
