I was wondering if anybody new of a software application that would essentially put an AvantGo type service on your PC.

What i'd like is the ability to specify certain websites and link depths (i've got a few newspaper sites in mind) and a sync time. Then, my computer would dial in at that time and download the webpages I specified.

Later, I'd open my browser and have a list of sites waiting for me to read. Like getting the newspaper delivered.

I know that most news sites have an email list and they'll email you top stories everyday, however, I like this idea as it gives you everything on the site and not a list of things that somebody decided was important.

AvantGo on the PC. Does anybody have any suggestions?

The thought of lugging my 7-pound laptop into the lavatory to read the New York Times Book Review seems a bit odd, though, don't you think?

I have never used it, but IE? Tools . . . Syncronize. And set it up?

Maybe I should try it?

Felipe,

I will name my first born after you!

i have NEVER noticed that feature before! I'll try setting this up tonight when i get home.

Fishscaler: I would like my computer to download the newspaper and a few other sites while i'm at work so that when i get home i can read the paper and not tie up the phone line.

I find that i read the news when i get home quite often and it ties up the phone line to the point where my 'significant other' misses calls or can't contact me.

This looks like the solution. I'll try it tonight.

Thanks!

Hoser,

I thinkered with it last night, but I don't think I have it totally down.

You first have to mark existing or new favorites as being available off line. For new Favorites there is a check box. For existing ones, right click on in and the select make available off line.

I'm sure there is another way, but once you get the page all you have to do is type in the page URl and IE will you your local copy instead of going online to get it.

personal proxy server

how about a personal proxy server....

If you make it cache enough it should have it all when you are offline...
