OS X hotsync woes

I've just installed Palm Desktop 4 on my OS X machine at work (I've been syncing my aging Visor Deluxe in Windows 2000, XP and Linux for years without serious problems), and I'm having a very strange problem. Every time I sync with my OS X machine, it seems to think that it's the first time I've synchronized my visor -- it does a complete backup of my Visor's contents (and even installs the 3.1.1 update _every_ time, which means that I have to reset my Visor after _every_ sync).

Needless to say, this is a little frustrating. I've tried everything I can think of -- I've even performed a hard reset and let the OS X software restore everything on the handheld. Is there something simple that I'm missing, or should I just take my hotsync cradle back to my XP machine?

Thanks,

chris
