From a company with many 'road warriors', we have seen success with many free ISP's, even while traveling to past shows, etc. However, I can't name any at the moment -- and that's exactly my point...
In other words, you kinda get what you pay for. You may get a working configuration for a free ISP, but it may not necessarily work somewhere else, or sometime else for that matter. For a traveler, where murphy's law is in full effect (ask any road warrior), that's usually one variable you can do without!
No doubt, use a free ISP if you can, but be prepared while you're traveling (my opinion).
