Talking GoType keyboard

I had a GoType for my Palm III and loved it, looked at the Stowaway and decided it wasn't for me. I want something I can put in my lap or other uneven surface (like the ground outside, etc). So I bought the yellow packaged GoType for 'Handspring Visor' from my local store and rushed home. Imagine my surprise when I found the silly thing wouldn't fit. So I fired off an email to the landware folks asking if I'd bought the wrong version. I found this website and perused the messages and found that it doesn't fit!

Now, here's the good news (this is part of the reply they sent me):

The Visor GoTypes in the retail channels do not fit the Visor Prism. They were designed before the Prism was introduced and therefore are compatible only with earlier models.

We recently introduced a Prism-compatible model that we sell directly. Your best bet would be to return the unit to the store, and purchase directly from us. Your options for purchasing method can be found at http://www.landware.com/purchasing/purchasing.html

Just got off the phone, I should have the keyboard in a few days!

So? Anyone else like me happy to know they can have the GoType for their Prism?

I already have a Stowaway
I'd buy it again because I prefer full sized keys and smaller portable size.

Thumbs up

I got the Prism version of the GoType! Pro, and I think it's great. I am a hunt-and-peck typist (albeit very fast) and so the "feel" of fullsize keys is not quite as important to me.

Like the previous post, I wanted a keyboard I could put in my lap without it buckling.

I also like how the lid has a fold down flap to make room for an oversize SpringBoard module so it will still sit properly in the integrated cradle.

The one feature I am going to miss is ability to charge in the cradle. I would be able to forego use of my other cradle completely (ie, one at work, one at home) since the GoType will allow HotSynching, but Landware didn't build in power to the keyboard. Apparently they have one that will charge a Palm V, so I think it could have been done. Oh well.

Hacking it to charge is simple, it's just a matter of getting the right power supply and connecting it to the right connector pins. Run a search here for it, you'll find it. However, hardware hacking involving line voltages is dangerous. Be careful.

Heres a fact. The Stowaway outsells the Gotype 10 to 1. you know why? IN NORMAL CIRCUMSTANCES, IT's BETTER! :-D

yes, their are some people who NEED to be able to type in their lap, and they can sacrafice the small keys, and bulky size, but most users just want a good keybaord. Stowaway is just that!

Stowaway ALL the way.

interesting fact there, miradu, 'specially since GoType is cheaper. Guess price isn't as much a deciding factor as some companies want you to think!

It's simple to see why the stowaway sells more... The geek factor. Stowaway exceeds any other palm device keyboard in geekiness by a factor of 10. People buy it not because it's a better typing device, but because it's cooler one. Same reason they pay more.

Now if they could just make it thinner so I could cram one in my slipcase with my platinum. I hate the bulkiness it adds, and that's the reason I don't have ANY keyboard. ;-)
