Wink

Yesterday, I received my replacement Visor about 2 weeks after I requested it. I had a Blue Vdx that had the telltale chipping of the hard cover slot. I was told a new one would come and it is much improved. The kicker is that I received a graphite Vdx instead of a blue one. Anyway, I had originally received my Visor the beginning of December. Here's what's changed:

1. The hard cover on the graphite fits with less strain on the slot. Dimensionally, it is the same size, but the tab that catches on the slot is bbbbarely shorter, by about a millimeter. Makes all the difference. The Ice cover fits really tightly on the graphite Visor.
2. The Visor housing fits tighter with no squeaks at all. The Blue one squeaked even after tightening the screws.
3. The stylus now has a completely smooth tip, versus the divot that I had in the first one. Send your old one's back and/or complain. There's a big difference.

Another difference between the Blue and Graphite: the Ice battery cover has a Palm trademark on it and the graphite cover doesn't.
So, hurray for Handspring for making some improvements, or maybe the colored Visors still have manufacturing snafus. Though I will keep the graphite Visor, I will miss the Blue one. I'll call customer support and see what they can do to make up for the color change. Meantime, I'm beaming back and forth and letting my 4 yr. old play games on the old one before I send I back next week in the prepaid Fedex mailer.
I used Backupall(freeware) prior to syncing the new Visor. Everything was reloaded except for one non-copiable proprietary program. Not bad, but I can't wait for my backup module.

Happy MLK weekend everyone.
Jon

I have a theory. If you peel back the sticker on the battery cover, you will see the words Rev. A or Rev. B. You can read them backwards without removing the sticker on the colored cases. Could you tell me if there is a difference between your new graphite and the old Blue. I think the new, fixed ones are Rev. B, like mine. I have had no problems with mine, which brought up some curiosity.
I have a handspring logo on my case by the way. I don't know where you would have gotten a palm logo.

Exclamation

Your theory is correct. I have a black Visor and I looked under the sticker and its a Rev B. Kewlllll.

Cool

OK, the backwards lettering on my OVD's battery cover says "REV B" so that's cool. But if I look just above the upper right corner of the battery compartment, on the case itself, there's a backwards "REV A". Any comments?

By the way, I've had no problems yet with chipping or scratches, so whatever REV this is, it's been fine so far (knock on wood)...

Both of the Visors, the Blue with the chipped case and the newer Graphite are Rev B. So, at least for me, the Rev letter does'nt mean a thing. My neighbor across the street just got his Blue Vdx 2 days ago. I'll check his, too, including the stylus.

I have the Rev A under the sticker, but next to the sticker, there's a letter B written in some short of white paint (most likely white-out). Could it be a Rev B ???

Cool

Battery compartment cover is REV B, no chipping (I've only had it a week). But I use the leater case rather than the plastic cover.

Oh, Battery cover. Though you meant Hard Cover (which has a handspring logo). My battery cover has the palm logo on it to. Oh, and I think the "white paint" is some sort of tracking/control code, since it is oddly writen, and makes no sense. I think it is safe to assume that Rev. means Revision, since that is the only thing that I can think of that would apply in this situation. Anyone willing to e-mail handspring to see if we can get any information on this?

jwbekens,
I received my Graphite VDx last week and the battery cover has the Palm trademark on it.
It is good to know that Visor is improving on their product. The stylus seems to be smooth without any ridges.

Question

I compared my blue Vx to my friends graphite deluxe and we noticed a slight weight increase on the graphite...almost like the plastic is a little thicker?

anybody else?
