Hi All,

I just received my Backup module and I have a question:
Is it smart to keep the module in the visor?
I can vaguely remember that the springboard will drain your batteries.

Is this true? And are there any other reasons to not do it?
I keep it in there so I have it with me all teh time, so if desaster strikes, I can still restore from a backup... I have the E&B slippercase (with clip) which I really like so I don't want to switch cases....

While I don't believe that the Backup module will drain the batteries, the biggest reason NOT to keep the backup module in the Visor is this: What will you do to restore your data should the Visor be lost or stolen?? With the backup module in the Visor you would lose not only the Visor, but the backup of your information, etc. It's best to keep them separate IMHO.

If you're going to do that then you'll need something like Backup Buddy or Backup Bitster as well. That would work, but depending on the number of extra programs you are running it could take a while. The module restores in about 5 minutes (for approx. 6MB of progs/data, that's what I have on mine). And yes, I do agree that the chance of your Visor becoming lost/stolen is probably slim, but there is always that chance.

I guess in the end, the answer is up to you. I am of the mindset that you don't store the backups with the machine, so that is where I am coming from.

I use BackupAll so that will take care of the PC backup issue's. I mainly have the backupmodule for traveling...

Maybe I should get another backup module, just in case this one gets stolen with the unit...

Married life is pretty good (hey, I'm still 'allowed' to buy my gadgets so I'm not complaining )

Pros and cons. (No it doesn't drain batteries so I've noticed).

If I need to have a hard reset, I've got recent backups available that are more complete than anything I can even get from my desktop. I won't have recent backups available if I fail to keep it in the module, so that's what I do. To those who say that I might lose the whole unit with module--a very good point. I parse that out this way: If I'm local and able to hot sync regularly I don't worry about it. I always have my most important data backed up on my desktop. Worst that happens is that I have to reinstall some hacks. It is much more likely that I will need to do a hard reset IMHO. Seems to happen twice a year. (Never lost a unit.) So which is more convenient? To me, I keep the module in the unit. Another good side effect of this is that before I change batteries i do a backup. That way, no slip ups are possible.

NOW if I'm traveling, that's different. Then, I want the backup module and unit in different places so I can at most lose one at a time. Then, I'm days if not weeks away from my desktop and a reliable backup is a more important issue, not just a convenience.

I keep my Backup module installed, too. I back up several times a day, especially before I'm doing anything that might cause a reset. I've had to restore all my data two or three times already and I really appreciated having a current backup.

In fact, the reason I bought the backup module in the first place was because I had to restore all my data from the backup files in my desktop. It was very time-consuming, and a lot of the data (including all of my registration codes) was lost or had to be manually re-entered.

I still do an occasional backup to the desktop in case I lose the Visor (and the backup module with it), but I don't expect that to happen. More likely is that it gets damaged from a fall or drops in deep water or something. But hey, you can't protect yourself against everything! (Unless you buy two backup modules and switch them every night.)

I keep my backup module separate from my Visor. I also think the chances are pretty slim that I will lose or have my Visor stolen (hopefully...), but I don't want to take the chance. Besides, what if I accidentally dropped it, hard, on concrete? The Visor could be broken in a way that would render the module useless, and then I would be SOL.

The module that's usually stored in my Springboard slot, is the 8mb Flash Module.

I keep it in. I'm not too worried about losing both (there is that chance, but I'm willing to take it).

If I lose the Visor with the backup, I don't know how long it will be till I will spend the $250 for a new one, so the backup won't do me a whole lot of good.

I'm more worried about losing the backup if it's not in the Visor, or not using the backup ('cause it wasn't with it) frequently enough, and then needing it.

Battery drain would've been a concern, but you guys seem to have alleviated that one.
