Question Dialing up to my ISP w/ Palm OS 3.5?

Hi Everyone,

I used to be able to dial up w/ my Nokia 8290 to my ISP using palm os 3.1 when I installed IR Link and other PRC's to enable my VDX to dialup to my ISP.

However, now with OS 3.5 on my Edge, I can't seem to establish a handshake with my ISP. I can dial my Nokia 8290, however, after about 11 seconds of connection it will disconnect. I think it's because the INIT string isn't set correctly?

Has anyone else had this problem? If it makes a difference, I was able to connect to the net via VoiceStream's ISDN number (using a different init string). However, I'd rather use my ISP.

Thanks!

I don't believe that the problem is from the initial string because I don't have anything written for that setup using my VPR and 8290.

This is what I did...

Preferences > Connection

  • Create a new configuration and select the IrCOMM to Modem connection method (this replaces the use of IR Link for Palm OS 3.1)
  • Name this connection, Nokia 8290
Preferences > Network

  • Create a new service by writing N
  • Replace, Untitled with the name of your ISP and fill in the remaining information for User Name, Password and Phone
  • Select Nokia 8290 for the Connection
Enable the Infared feature on the 8290 and hit Connect.

I hope this helps.
