Post Ethernet Cradle Coming Soon

I don't know if anyone has seen this at http://www.palminfocenter.com/view_Story.asp?ID=1740
before, I did a search and didn't find it here. This article only mentions the m500 but after further research the press release also mentions Handspring.

The article states "It will list for $200 and be available in late May to early June 2001. "

Checkout http://www.portsmith.com/pspda.shtml

They have pictures of a future Ethernet Docking Cradle.

The following press release dated Dec 11, 2000 mentions Handspring among other vendors.

http://www.portsmith.com/pr121100.shtml

I actually called the # listed and hit 1 for sales and spoke to Kate or Katy and she actually confirmed May to June time frame.

I don't think this is very interesting for the typical end-user. It's only good for remote synching over the corporate LAN. An actual (wired) ethernet springboard module would also allow e-mail, browsing, telnet, ftp, etc. (but nobody is making one) =(

I agree about the corporate lan part- I sent this link around the office here, because we're looking at server sync solutions, and this would represent a huge advance over IR.

But I could also see this being the direction of syncing in general...it would allow you to sync to a networked computer anywhere in the world, which I can see as being very useful. In and of itself it may only be exciting at the moment for certain groups of people, but this could be the first step in moving away from syncing as being an odd, one-item- to-another-item technology to making the handheld cradle just another device on the network.
