Does anyone still have GeoDiscovery Geode software?

? - Does anyone still have a copy of whatever was the last software released by GeoDiscovery for the Geode before they went under?

I think the last one was 1.4 beta. We were stuck by GeoDiscovery with a few units when they disgracefully died. Since they're no longer usable for anything else, one has gone home with me for use in GeoCaching (http://www.geocaching.com).

Anyhow, the latest software I could find in our stash was 1.1 and I know there was at least 1 update released.

Ideally, I would like to take the thing apart and write my own NMEA interface for the darn thing... the SiRF chipset is capable. But I don't want to completely reinvent the wheel.

I'm willing to trade you something for your trouble.

Thanks in advance!

I've got Geoviewer 1.3 if that's what you are looking for. I don't have many maps though. A few for Long Island and some from Florida.

Post an address and I'll send you the files I have.

Thanks Jaws - email daniel"at"davoice.net or upload them to me (if they're larger than a meg or so) here:

http://files.davoice.net/davoice/

If there are others out there, I can make the file directory available for them too.

Thanks Much!

I would be interested in a copy of the Geoviewer 1.3.
Please post back here when it is ready for download.

If anyone knows which 3RD party maps works good with the
Geode, I would also be interested in any input.

I was pricing GPS's on ebay and came across the Geode and Visor as a package and bought it last weekend. I was convinced that this is a cool gizmo. In all of the research I did, I didn't come across the fact that this company was no longer in business. There webserver still has a page discribing the Geode.

Thank you
Bill

Woops. Can I ask how much you paid?

Send me an email and I'll send you a link. I plan to put up some sort of website for those of us who are still using them.

http://www.geodiscovery.com/home.html

It's possible the "store" machine just hasn't crashed yet like all the other servers..

Actually their store is a private labeled, custom design Yahoo Store. My guess is they pre-paid for it. That or Yahoo has a horrible accounts payable department.

Geode Software Files

For those of you like me who still have these units in use, here is my Geode software archive.

http://files.davoice.net/geode/

Many thanks to those who submitted copies of maps, GeoView and updates. If you happen to have something that is not currently in the archive - i.e. local maps - please upload to me at:

http://files.davoice.net/davoice/

Thanks again! Keep digging guys! I'm sure between us we have copies of all the maps, etc.

Blessings,
Davoice

Lightbulb yim, make them available

I will propose an arrangment.
I will pay a fair amount (paypal or whatever method you like) for your time, materials and energy to get you to burn duplicates of the map cd's. Does Kinko's do that?

Or if you aren't attached to the originals, you could send them.
Does $10 to $15 sound fair?

I plan to make them public domain anyway by uploading the total to Daniel's website archive.

Let me know your thoughts.

Bill,

Jim has already agreed (off-board) to mail them to me so I can make them available. Since there are a couple CDs worth, I will most likely also make them available at cost on CD via mail. (Like $6-8 inc. shipping.)

I know there are people who won't be able to download 900MB or so. And I think that's about how much we're going to end up with. Plus if too many people try to download the whole thing, it will drive my web servers nuts.

Blessings,
Davoice

3 CD Geode Software Archive

Hi All,

Thanks for the interest in Geode stuff. It's still nice to know there are people out there like me who are using it... even though GeoDiscovery is long gone.

Jim was nice enough to send me copies of the CDs from his archive. I have combined this with all the materials I have received and am going to offer it as a 3 CD set at my cost.

In the set you will find:
- Maps for Western US
- Maps for Eastern US
- GeoDiscovery/GeoView 1.1 - 1.4beta.
- Firmware update for Geode (1.1 - 1.4 beta)
- Demos, trials and freeware of GPS software for Handspring

These are offered as is. I have no idea what some things are yet or how most if it works since this collection is new to me. There is no GeoDiscovery to offer support anymore (though from what I hear they didn't do so well even when they were in operation). So, if you blow your unit up, your hosed.

As soon as I can make room on our network for 2 gigs of storage, I will upload them. I'm in the process of creating a support group and online exchange for those of us still using these units.

For now, since most people can't download that much stuff (and I don't want you guys to suck my T1s dry downloading these monsters), the preferred of delivery will be sneakernet via USPS.

The 3 CD archive compilation set is $12 including shipping. That covers my time and expenses to burn copies and mail them. Once I can make room on my servers, they will be available for direct download at no charge. (Though I'm sure I'd accept any donations to defray the bandwidth costs associated with this.)

For now, click here if you're interested:

Order your 3 CD Geode software archive compilation

Blessings,
Davoice
