Question

ACK!!! I lost my Visor Deluxe on a recent business trip. At the time I purchased it, it seemed like the best PDA out there. Now the Palm IIIxe, Vx and PocketPCs are out. Anyone have any opinions on what I should purchased to replace my Visor Deluxe?
I think I'm leaning towards buying another Visor Deluxe, or maybe a Palm IIIxe.

Thanks,
Jeff

Cool

Simple! Go with another Visor Deluxe! But if you can afford to wait a little while, you might want to see what Sony and Handspring might be displaying at PC Expo at the end of the month,... There might be some new features you might be interested in,...

I would only recommend purchasing a Pocket PC device if a) you are one of Bill Gates' Sponge-Minions who listen to every word he says, or b) you are one of those people that just has to have every single little bell and whistle on a gadget just to show off to everyone you know, of which the novelty will quickly wear off in about two weeks' time, and you'll be left with a useless piece of crap!

Question

Well... How were you using your Visor? Were there tasks you could not do with the Visor that could have been done with another PDA? Those thoughts should give you some idea on what to look for in a new PDA.

Question

Actually, I've been using PalmOS devices since 96 when they first came out. The Visor does pretty much everything that I need. The Palm IIIxe seems like almost the same thing. I guess I'll go look at them in the store to see if they perform any differently. I don't need the enhanced datebook of the Visor, as I use Datebk4.

I guess advantages of each:
Visor:
-A little faster
-Springboards: Haven't found any useful ones for me yet.
-USB Sync.
Palm IIIxe:
Upgradeble OS in flash: Is 3.5 really better then 3.1?
Palm name, maybe better support then Handspring.
400-500k of flash memory to use for apps.
slower or faster then Visor?

The IIIxe is slower than the visor because of the wsit states in the OS.

The visor deluxe is your best bet. Either that or wait for the Sony, but that's not for another half a year. I did a comparison of the Palm and Handspring units for a branch of GTE, and it came out between the Visor Deluxe and the Palm Vx. I think that the Visor deluxe is the better choice because of the springboard slot (and the price!)

Good luck with your decision!

If I were you I would just wait until Handspring comes out with color Visors (Although they may be overwhelmed by demand again . But thats just me. They'll prolly be more expensive too. If you need something now though, go for the Visor Deluxe! Can't go wrong

Peace
