YIKES - Big trouble here. Have been having problems with Hot Syncing and ThinModem Plus, and HS 8MB Flash Module. Trying to get to a place where ThinModem Plus mirrors what is on the HS 8MB Flash Module, but......

After a chain of events I cannot reconstruct precisely, the Hot Syncing process keeps resulting in Fatal Error/Fatal Exception situation that I can only rectify by Hard Reset. So, I moved the Backup Directory on the C:\ drive to the Desktop for same keeping, thinking I would one by one add back applications using the install tool. That worked great at first because, with Backup Buddy set to have Handheld overwrite Desktop, slowly I was rebuilding the main memory of the Visor. Unfortunately, I started moving files from the original Backup (now on the Desktop) to the newly created one in the Palm User directory, instead of to the Install Buddy tool. Well, that didn't go well, 'cause moving the files out of the one and into the other Backup guaranteed that on the next HotSYnc they would be history. And I am talking about stuff like preference files and files storing registration codes, etc.

Long story short, now I am really screwed, and the two modules are also about as far from being in sync as east is from west. In fact, I really trashed up the TM+ so it now does not work properly (but CA folks are wonderful and are helpin me out there). Can anyone offer a general plan of attack here to get things back to "normal", and also safely sync up the two modules, the desktop and the handheld, etc. Everything I have read is a bit dizzying, which is why I think I screwed it all up to start with (my fault, no on else's). Some good practical advice and a slight correctional shock should I try this stupid stunt again is what I need.

Don't rack your brain on this one.
Hotsync (backup) as much as you can. Hard Reset and format the modules

Create three desktop (temporary) backup folders

1) for the Flash module
2) for the ThinModem+
3) for the internal memory

- categorize the files you want in each block of memory.
-I'd give backup buddy a rest. It's probably mad at you. Heh heh.. kidding about that, but still leave backupbuddy out of the equation until the very end. BB or System Synchronization 'do nothing.'

Start with the modules first.

A.
Using the Install tool install/hotsync
1) for the Flash module
to the Visor's internal memory. Transfer to the module using FileMover by moving files (not copying)

B.
Using the Install tool install/hotsync
2) for the ThinModem+
to the Visor's internal memory. Transfer to the module using FileMover by moving files (not copying)

C.
Using the Install tool install/hotsync
3) for the internal memory
to the Visor's internal memory.


Obviously in no way is this the fastest way to clear up the problem, but it's basic and will serve the purpose of re-organizing your data the way you like it.

Note.. if you still wish to mirror your TM+ and HSflash, then stick with two desktop folders (one called modules for example, and the other called internal) and in step A, do indeed copy the files instead of moving, and then just use the Thinmodem Filemover and move the same files you copied. Proceed to Step C.

You may now see why I'm opposed to multiple module use. This actually isn't as long a process as it may seem. Good Luck
