batteries

has anyone bought the recharge batteries and accessories for the visor neo and if so, what kind and what do you think about it? tired of using alkaline batteries - is this a good idea or not?

Ray-o-Vac

Before I went ahead with refinancing the mortgage to pay for the alkalines I was burning through on my VDlx, I bought four Ray-o-Vac rechargeable NiMH batteries and the Ray-o-Vac charger. Everything worked great, with the following observations:

- After I started using the Memplug CF, I noticed that I was replacing the batteries everyday if I did not want to face unexpected dead PDA problems.

- You have to change the battery type to NiMH if you want an reasonable measure of battery life to be reported. Because that is not an option on the OS 3.1, I used downloaded and installed the Battery Panel hack, which adds a "Battery" Category to the Prefs panel. The closest I could come was using the NiCad type.

And, yes, people do reply to posts, but disparaging remarks will decrease the likelihood of kind replies big time.

I, too, am using rechargeables in my Neo. I also am using a removeable memory card, in my case a MemPlug SM, and finding that this drains the batteries quickly.

However, I'm getting a lot more mileage out of my batteries because I'm using the Rayovac rechargeable alkalines.

I've been very happy with them, and they would be saving me a bundle ... if I didn't keep losing the silly things!

My kids are using a Neo and a Solo, and are following a plan I started when i was using a Deluxe.

1.) Use the "command dot dot 7" command to set your device to interpret the batteries correctly. Use the NiCad setting- it is close enough.

2.) Use 2 sets of batteries- one being charged, one in the device.

3.) Swap every day, after your daily hot-sync. You can usually go 2-3 days on a set (I kept mine at work and left the old set in over the weekends), but NiMH like being kept as full as possible (according, at least, to most of the battery makers that make a statement one way or the other!)

With 2 Visors sharing the batteries, I have them swapping three sets, switching every other day (My kids are not really power users, and not heavy module users- at least so far!)

This worked for my Deluxe for about a year with no problems.

recharge batteries

can you use the recharge set with the neo -- where you replace the battery and the battery cover so that you can set it in the charger when you are not using it instead of changing the batteries --- kind of like a phone Hope this makes some sense!!

Just use RayOvac rechargable Alkalines and you don't have to worry about any settings or voltage problems--
