Cool

Now that TealMovie is out we should start posting movie files that have been converted for use on the Prism. The Pocket PC dudes have web sites they can go to download Mpegs and CMF files (for the Casio). We could also discuss the best encoding techniques along with improvements we would like to see with TealMovie. Before you ask, I do not have any web building experience but I am sure someone here does!

That would sound like a good idea to me. I wouldn't mine encoding a thing now and then to contribute. I enjoyed doing it with FireViewer and it was great for showing off my Visor (I'd love to see it on a Prism!).

I guess I could post them on my site. If you send the files to [email protected], I'll post them late on Tuesday night.

I would also be willing to help. I know my way around HTML, and a few sites to host it at for low-cost.

If you want to coordinate via email, mine is [email protected].

P.S. I don't actually have TealMovie, I'm just willing to do the hosting, and design.

Smile Good Idea

This sounds great. I can't offer any web creation or hosting, but I'll contribute movies. I haven't encoded any of my own yet, but I will soon. Teal Movie is the best player I have found for the Prism. Perhaps we could all encourage Teal to support 16 bit color in the future.

I already put a bug Tealpoint's ear... Here's their response:

quote:
It's something we're considering, but there are two main issues: 1) Compression rate - a nice amount of the file compression results from the palettizing of the video. Going to 16 bit would probably raise file sizes 50% with only a slight increase in image quality. On the other hand, raising the data rate by 50% can reduce a lot of graininess and often give you better-looking results than putting the same bits into a color depth increase. 2) 16-bit support would almost certainly make the files unplayable on any other device, including the IIIc. This would mean both a special mode for the encoder and a separate player for the Prism, which is my favorite machine for playback now but still a small part of the market.

Even though Palm OS4.0 will formally support 16-bit color, the video chip on the IIIc doesn't. So until the new machines come out,16-bit-capable machines are still relatively scarce.

While neither of these are reasons not to do a 16-bit version, they put the considerable effort needed to do this on the back burner while we work to build a library of movies that all Palms can play, which is what we're working on at the moment to help drive sales of the program.

Has anyone converted the Final Fantasy trailer for Teal Movie yet? That would be an impressive one to have.

Arrow

I just finished encoding the Final Fantasy trailer... I hope that was legal. Anyway, I had to keep it pretty high compression, and only 8 fps (and it was letter boxed). The image quality, and the sound is not that good, I might need to redo it. The problem is the 256 colors, it is hard to make out what some of the stuff is. But, if you are interested, I could e-mail it, or post it somewhere, it is about a meg or so, let me know.

Cool, if nots much trouble go ahead and send it over to me. Of course, I bet there are other people who would be interested in seeing it, so posting might be a good idea too? If you want you can e-mail it to me and I can post it on one of my various accounts for website that I never use.

I made a couple of TealMovies out of two of the trailers for the new Japanese Godzilla movie (out now in Japan; Godzilla vs Megaguirus... The sequel to Godzilla 2000).

If anyone's interested, I may put 'em up on my site.
