Just thought I'd give all current and future owners of the Handspring Modem this little heads-up:

After putzing around with the modem over the last few days I encountered the following problems:

Inability to consistantly connect/authenticate via PPP to various ISP's

Inconsistant DNS lookups

Dropped connections

Inability for ProxyMail to dial the modem. Had to go to Network Preferences to connect

Inability for AvantGo to connect directly to the MAL server while online and inability of Proxiweb to connect to predefined proxy server.

Finally it dawned on me to check how I had Afterburner set for all of these apps and they were all set to "Default", which was set at 24mhz. I found it necessary to set all applications that use the modem to "Normal." The important thing to remember is that you must also set the Preferences app to "Normal" as well.

Once this was done, all was good in the world and the modem began to work flawlessly.
