I guess if you live in Utah, you're almost as good as a beta tester.

Thumbs up Interesting news

mgflorez, thanks for the link. Before I ordered my Geode I asked the Customer Support Rep at GeoDiscovery a few questions about the Geode. I wanted to know if the Macintosh was supported out of the box, I was told that it was. I also asked if you could store Palm files on the MMC cards, but the answer I got was 'I don't know'. So I was pleased to see that this article mentioned that as a feature. As a fellow engineer I would assume that the folks at GeoDiscovery would have provided that capability, now they just need to let their customer supports know it and perhaps advertise that ability on their web site.

I was told that I should have my Geode by Monday. I am crossing my fingers

There is a small caveat to the file movement to the MMCs. It won't be available out of the box right away. If you check on Geode's Datasheet page you will find this note:
*MMC Statement:

Note: 1/17/01

The Geode GPS Module ships ready with two Multi Media Card (MMC) slots. Currently GeoData Manager, the program that works with the MMC and allows you to store both GeoView map and guide packs and any other Palm files on the MMCs, does not meet our software release standards.

Those who receive the Geode GPS module before GeoData Manager is released will receive a coupon for five National Park Packs (Grand Canyon, Grand Tetons, Yellowstone, Yosemite and Zions) for free in the box (a $25 value). They will also receive notification when GeoData Manager becomes available and will be able to download the update via the internet. We anticipate availability before the end of February.

In short, it will have the capability, they just want to make sure they get it right before they distribute it. This is one of the great things about Geodiscovery. They have continually shown that they want to make a quality product. Period. One of the reasons that all of their software is stored on onboard flash memory, is so they can update it with new features.

Thumbs up Thank you Sven

Thanks for the update Sven. I am pleased to know that GeoDiscovery also shares my desire to store palm files on Multi Media Cards. While this is certainly not a requirement for any GPS, it does provide one additional reason for users to purchase the Geode over a competing module. The limitations of the current GeoData Manager are understandable given that this is the first iteration, and it is comforting to know that GeoDiscovery intends to address this deficiency in a future release. The free maps are a wonderful gesture on GeoDiscovery's part and it is a good indication how serious they are about providing a great user experience. It is also an indication that they take responsibility for things that they promised, yet couldn't deliver on in a timely manner. Wow, what a refreshing change. If Micro$oft had to pony up every time they missed a delivery date well Bill Gates wouldn't be the richest man in the world.

Thank you GeoDiscovery.
