Treo Sprint service in Bloomington, IN

My son has had a Treo 300 for about a month, with what would appear to be a very attractive pricing package from Sprint, including unlimited data. The problem is that he has problems staying connected for more than half a minute or so. He apparently has had no problem when he travels, from memory in Indianapolis, DC, and so. I really want to get one. It seems lightyears ahead of competing products, including the pricing for the wireless connection. Can others please comment on this. Needless to say, I also live in Bloomington. Incidentally, he has had problems getting any response from Sprint.
They first told him two weeks, and when he contacted them almost a month later, they said they had responded and told them that there were possibly problems with "pockets" in the area. He has had problems throughout all of Bloomington.
