I'd like to change the default directory, where the Palm Desktop software looks for installable apps.
I didn't find it yet, but there's probably a possibility somewhere.

I still don't quite understand why you would want to change the default directory. You could simply make a shortcut to it, or even better make a shortcut in the send to command. Most prorgrams you download are zipped anyways, so just unzip them to the installed directory.

Maybe he wants to store these files on a different drive because he is running low on space on the drive where the Palm desktop is installed. I also like to keep downloaded applications somewhere under My Documents so I only have one directory to backup.

But your suggestion about a shortcut is good. I think a lot of people don't even realize that you can create a shortcut to a directory. I've had to do this with several unfriendly applications (PrintShop for example) that don't let you specify the default directory.

In case anyone doesn't know how, you simply right click on a directory and the select 'Create Shortcut' and then drag the shortcut to another directory. Now when you click on the shortcut it will take you to the original directory.

I'm alittle confused with the problem, however, i have all my apps in their respective directories and ALL under one directory called 'Palmstuff' on a second harddrive. Whenever i download an app i like i make a folder for it in the Palmstuff folder. When i double click on the .prc or .pdb file it asks me which user to download the app too and on the next hotsync it does.
I have the back-up folder in my Palm Desktop folder but i rarely look at that. Whenever i need to re-install an app, i just find it's folder and double click on its files.

This way i just copy the 'Palmstuff' folder and all it's subfolders onto a floppy, and i've got a backup of all my apps.

You don't have to put all your apps in the Add-on folder. i don't use that folder at all actually.

I also usually install apps the same way as you. Sometimes I install right out of WinZip.

But sometimes I like to install by clicking the Install button from the desktop. That opens the default add-in directory and you then must navigate to wherever you store your apps. I'm assuming that Ridder was simply trying to change the default from add-in to wherever he stores his apps.

Yes, Bregent1, that's exactly what I want:
When I click on "install" on the Palm Desktop, it opens a install window with c:\whatever\*.* as the directory where to install from.
I want that window to open with D:\Visor

I've searched the registry and I don't see and entry for add-on so I'm guessing that the default directory is hardcoded into the Palm Desktop application.

I think Matt's suggestion is the best alternative. Just create a shortcut in C:\Palm\Add-on that points to c:\whatever\*.*
