Erratic screen behaviour; then, can't hot sync

Suddenly, my Visor Deluxe of several years started acting weird.
First, the letters that printed on the screen were not the letters that I was writing. Then, the screen stopped responding to any of the stylis touches.

I tried several soft resets, and a power reset, and digitized the screen but that didn't work. I also tried to uninstall my hacks (MiddleCap, MenuHack, and TapPad) but got the error message: MemoryMgrNew.c, Line:4866, chunk under-locked.

I then tried another soft reset and was able to uninstall the hacks. I was getting worried and decided to do a hot sync in case I had to do a hard reset. But I got the error message that a connection betwen the handheld and the desktop could not be established.

Then I noticed that Vindigo 2.0 had been installed on my handheld. I didn't do this voluntarily, it must have happened during a previous hot sync. I uninistalled Vindigo 2.0, did a soft reset. Now, everything seems to be working but I still can not hot sync.

Your first mistake was under-locking your Chunk! EVERYONE knows that you NEVER under-lock your Chunk!

Try reinstalling the Palm Desktop (Or upgrading to Palm Desktop 4.1) It is possible that your drivers on your desktop have become corrupted. I have had to reinstall my drivers on my Windows 2000 machine at least three times in one year.

Also, try cleaning your contacts on the Visor and on the cradle. They may have gotten a little oxidized over the years.

Last but not least, try connecting the Visor to a different computer (At the office, maybe) and see if it is recognized. It may be a faulty cradle.

If all else fails, upgrade to an Edge or Prism! They are a lot of fun!

It just got stranger:
I wanted to see what version of Palm Desktop I had so I launch the program, clicked Help|About, and it says "version <unknown>". When I clicked "more info", nothing happened.
I did clean the contacts and now Hot Sync works.
However, in Palm Desktop, the floating events are not carrying over to the next day in DateBook.
