Discus the Red Mercury test results for the e^2 vs. normal Energizer batteries here. What have been your results?

Energizer e2 results

Based on my own personal use, the Energizer e2 batteries last much longer than standard batteries. I was averaging 19 hours and 30 minutes of runtime with standard Energizers, and my first use of the E2 batteries lasted for 34 hours and 49 minutes of runtime. That's an 83% improvement!

I trust my own results more than Red Mercury Labs' results. If you read their full report, they let the Palm III units run continuously until they shut down. My runtimes are based on actual usage of turning my Visor off and on throughout the day for several weeks of usage.

I'm getting similar results from my second pair of e2 batteries, and I highly recommend them.

How to measure?

Is their an official hack or something that can record your up-time on a Visor? I don't trust my mind to remember how many hours I've used it.

I haven't tried the e2's YET. But I have some serious reservations about Red Mercury's tests:

First, their report makes no mention (that I could find) of how many sets of batteries they tested in how many Palms.

Also, as Sparty metioned, this test didn't even come close to duplicating real world usage.

The best test is comparing Runtime under *your* normal usage patterns.

I was planning to try e2's for myself and after reading this test report, that's still my plan.

e^2's sucked....

I tried out some e^2's and they sucked down in half the time my batteries normally last. Maybe they just react badly to the eyemodule, but the regular batteries do just fine with it. I'm not using them again.

Has anyone done testing of Energizer(s) vs. Duracell, or Duracell vs. Duracell Ultra?

Would be nice to have a comparison of all of the major varieties of batteries out there.

There you will find technical info about their batteries.

For example, the regular alkaline AAA energizer is rated at 1250 mAh. That is, it will supply 1250 milliamps for one hour. Or 1 mA for 1250 hours. It really isn't quite so easy, as there are many complex factors that affect battery life. The data includes PDF files outlining many of these different conditions and how they affect battery life.

The up-shot of all this is that Eveready rates BOTH Energizer and e2 AAA batteries at an identical 1250 mAh.

Of course there will be variations from battery to battery. To really compare, you'd need a statistically significant number of tests under controlled conditions.

From the data Eveready themselves publish, I think it's simply marketing hype.

As was stated in other messages, people don't leave thier Visors on all the time. So a MAh rating is nearly worthless in determining actual battery life under "normal use". All batteries tend to recover somewhat when they aren't being used. This is easy to see by looking at the voltage when you shut your unit off and then when you turn it back on again at a later time.

I guess if you really want to know how they work for you, then real world testing is required with something like uptime. (Atool is a great little program, but unless your use pattern is very consistant, unlike mine, the number of days each set of batteries lasted is not super usefull information.) I go through spurts of E-book reading that can kill a set in less than a week!

Hey,

If any of you have had issues w/ the e2 batteries (bad issues) call the 800 # on the back of the package. They'll give you an address and have you send in the batteries. In about 2 weeks you get 2 coupons for new batteries. I sent in 4 AAA's because they died faster than the cheap fuji's I usually use (which I highly reccomend for the price... get them at big lots)in both my handspring and mp3 player. Now I have 2 4packs of fresh batteries that seem to last forever.
I'd say to give them another chance (especially for free!!)
