Replacement for Battery Management Issue?

Has anyone tried calling Handspring Tech Support to see about getting a Treo 180 upgrade or replacement to get the better battery management software going out with the newer Treos?

I called and there seemed to be some confusion but the bottom line seemed to be that they were NOT offering a replacement (or even flash rom upgrade) for early Treo owners.

Anyone else hear anything?

We are getting reports from HS techsupport that HS has no policy to replace early Treo's yet - but we are looking into it.

I have an early Treo myself and the battery just ran out after a day and a half...

First Attempt at Handspring Tech Support ...

... And my first time posting at VisorCentral, though I've been "lurking" for a couple months now.

I ordered my Treo in March and am very happy with it. While I haven't had any battery problems yet, I haven't used it extensively for anything but short phone calls (half hour max) and a few data calls (which did suck the battery down). I read the article about the new software and called Handspring Tech Support ... the extent of the rep's knowledge about "new versions of the Treo software" seemed to be the fact that there are two different kinds of Treos available; the keyboard and graffiti ... no help there, obviously. After some prodding, he checked to see if software upgrades are available and came back with a "no" answer.

I wouldn't take that as a fact, but there's my experience.

I'm hoping they do allow to upgrade the software to fix the bugs ... the one I keep getting is when I try the "ListType" button (the one with the three dots on it, with the zero) it often gives me a Fatal Exception message and makes me reset ... a little annoying when trying to get a symbol that isn't on any of the keys to work.

Thanks for all the Treo information, guys. I wouldn't know half as much as I do about this wonderful product if not for this Discussion Board.

FYI: you're not alone on this one.

if Handspring does, in fact, admit that there is a different version, they'd better offer a software upgrade right quick.

That's actually a comfort ... the Tech rep made it seem like it must be a conflict with one of the third-party software I stuck on it, and suggested I try a hard reset then call them back if I'm still having the problem (which I have yet to do).

Would calling back and demanding a replacement unit (or whatever it is they do when they can't fix a problem) even do any good, or is the ListType problem that common?

It is a third party conflict issue...Either TreoButton or Powerjog is causing the problem. Do you have one of these beta progfams installed?

no date on the Treo 270. Or on the CDMA Treo. I have heard rumrrs for the CDMA of EARLY 2003 (but others saying perhaps a fall release), and the 270 being perhaps summer to fall. no absolute dates though.

I have both, actually. Well, I have PowerJog and that "Button-T" program.

So I would probably need to delete these incredibly useful programs off the system in order to use the ListType button reliably? Hm, tough trade-off there ...

Well you can always email hacker sans dude and tell hime about the bug...or you can wait till their is a full release version of the software. One thing that is for sure is that replacing the unit will not resolve the problem...Its not a Treo bug but a softwarfe conflict...most bugs of this type are.

Where are the updates? Why does VC continue to leave us all "high and dry"?

I wouldn't expect the update for several weeks. Try to get your unit replaced if the battery life is really poor.

Maybe Kenny is a shy guy. Perhaps they need to get a female correspondent .
