Question

Hi Folks...

Just converted from Palmm IIIxe to HS.

I would like to buy either the Backup module or the 8 or 16 mb expansion module.

Question: Whats the difference? I realize that the BU module only backes up but can you use the 8 as a BU too?

any help is appricieated

Thumbs up

If I were you I would wait for the memplug module to be released in the next month or so. It will allow backups and memory storage

Sence your price range is wide rangin.. I would get the backup module and 8 mb module. It would equal the cost of the 16 mb mem module, and you would get extra mem, plus backup

I'd get the mem plug if you have any SmartMedia Cards, or if you don't have an investment in one of the other flash card formats. If you don't like that idea, then get a 16 meg module and a copy of backupbuddy if you don't have it already.

Can this mem plug run all apps off of the SM card or does it still require some to be transferred like the 8/16 MB Flash modules?

On another note, since it allows you to view JPEGs directly off of the card, if HS released a Visor with a fast enough processor and a sound jack we could play MP3's right off the card (with a software MP3 player that is). It'll happen eventually ! Still dreaming...

The 8/16mb modules can do a backup but are slower than the Backup Module. You could backup up on only important things though, such as datebook & other apps and skip games, AvantGo, etc... So if it crashed you wouldn't be at a total loss. Also, there is a product called JackBack which automates backup to the 8/16mb cards and I believe it compresses it. You should probably check that out, cost is $14 for a short period of time (Its gonna go up to $20 I believe).

As for MemPlug, I don't think it really views those images off the card. I think that programs is written so it can list the images on the card and temporarily move them over, its gonna be a long while before mp3 built in for Visor is gonna be here and by then I'm sure there will be a better solution. MemPlug doesn't run anything on the card, so you have to move everything over.
