Goodbye Edge!

Well, after never having a problem with a soft reset on my Edge, I finally lost data in one of the resets I've had to do since last Friday. Fortunately it wasn't anything critical (basically everything I had in HandyShopper is gone, but nothing else appears to have gotten hit), but it's only a matter of time before I do lose something really important. Time to move on.

Now I just need to figure out which one to get. Even though thinness is a factor, I'm considering an n760 simply because the amount of functionality you get in the package. I won't consider the m505 because of the black bars in the display (they bother me just playing with it in the store), so for color I'm left with the t615. However, I can get a t415 @ Compusa right now for $208, which is an incredible price, IMO. I also have the m500 on my short list, as it's the most Edge-like of any of the alternatives, has good third party support, and I know it will work with the Mac (not so sure about the Sonys). <sigh>Decisions, decisions.

Anyway, thanks for letting me vent.

Check the new M515 & M530, they should sync with the Mac and have a thin form factor.

...if mono is a possiblity, consider the handera, too.

...though if I were in the market for a color PDA, it would be the choice between the n770 (functionality) or the m130 (price)

If form factor is a concern and color isn't, go with an m500. If form factor is and color is, go with a clie (take Toby's suggestion). If form factor isn't and color is, go prism (price & expansion whip the clie line). Finally, if form factor isn't and color isn't, go handera.

As far as the form factor & color/mono questions go: I'm trying to keep an open mind on both fronts, but I'm definitely leaning towards the thin form factor. I used my Edge far more extensively then my VDX, and I believe a lot of that had to do with the form factor: it was just easier to keep with me at all times. The color/mono question is a bit less clear for me, I do like the idea of color, but none of the built in apps appear to take advantage of it (priority 1 tasks in Task List don't show up in red. Things like that). Text is absolutely horrible to read on the m515 (text on the t615 is very easy on the eyes, though), I'm not particularly fond of the battery life or prices either.

As far as mono devices go: I like the m500. It's the most like the Edge of any of the devices, but I really don't care for it at it's current retail price of $299. It just seems a bit expensive for what you get. The Handera would be the device I'd buy if I was looking to travel a lot and/or wanted a laptop replacement. The battery life & functionality just can't be beat by any other device out there now. I'm still looking for something I carry with me constantly though, and the 330's form factor just doesn't cut it in that reguard. The t415 hits the form factor & price point (it's about $210 locally) and text is *very* easy to read on that device, but I have to believe that the battery life isn't much better than the color devices, given the display.

<sigh> That's where things stand right now. I'll let everyone know how things work out. Again, thanks for all the input.

For me, a nice case with a belt clip negates the larger form factor. For you, I'd say an m500 is right up your alley. Take a look at mysimon or the like.

I think you need to figure out what was causing you to have to
soft reset or reset at all. If you put that same program on the
new unit, chances are it will happen again. Save the money and
troubleshoot the problem.
