I have some questions about my new Visor. I had originally bought a PPC, but, decided it was too complicated and expensive for my needs. So, I went with the prism. Anyways, I'm a novice and need to know which programs I need to get started. I have the original ones of course, but, there's so many out there I don't know where to begin. I'd like a book reading device, but unsure which one. Any advice you have would be great. THX!

You will definitely love the Prism... it is very nice. I've had mine for about a month now and love it.

I'm constantly looking for the "perfect" application; the great thing about Palm is that most of the software is shareware so you can try before you buy. This is good for people like me that get bored quickly...

Anyway, the best place for software is http://www.palmgear.com. The best feature is their "Gear's Choice" and "The Essentials". You can scroll down through the applications that other people think are great (usually for good reason?) and see if they might be useful.

Applications I like and use:

MegaLauncher II (replacement shell for the default application launcher)
Action Names (replacement for Datebook+)
Avantgo (offline web browsing... go to http://www.avantgo.com)
SmartDoc (book reader) - also check out TealDoc (www.tealpoint.com)
Also - check out Wordsmith... This might be my new favorite application. Very nice.

One of the best things about Palm is the games... there are tons and they look great on the Prism. Check out all the free color games on the Handspring site, as well as:

Backgammon (standalone software)
Billiards
Bubble Puzzle (freeware & awesome - http://www.weblint.org/philj/pilot.html)
Bubblet (not free, but very cool)
Chess Genius
DopeWars (old, but very fun)
Mahjongg (from http://www.astraware.com - beautiful graphics!)
Rally 1000 (FREEWARE?!? http://www.davemayes.hypermart.net - this game is awesome!)
SimCity
Tetris
Ziogolf Color
VRally
Zap2000!

I'm thinking about trying one of those Game-boy emulating programs....how does that work though? do you just download the games you want?? also, do I need Afterburner? or one of those?? I'm not sure what they do to speed up things...I also have a silly question, I have Datebook + and Datebook, what's the difference?

iS THERE ANY WAY OF DELETING THE DATE + APPLICATION
already have dateBK4 and , date + app is using . 180 k of memory.

which book reader should I get? and which database program?? I have a database list already on there, but, if I change programs, will it automatically update my databases or do I have to re-enter them??? I'd like a program that works with my desktop where I can make changes to the database and it shows up on my Visor database...

My 2 cents

For Databases with Desktop components, try Handbase (www.handbase.com) or ThinkDB (www.thinkingbytes.com).

For Ebook Readers, try Peanut Reader (www.peanutpress.com), MobiPocket (www.mobipocket.com, CSPotrun at http://www.palmgear.com or TealDOc (www.tealpoint.com).
