Need help! Considering selling Prism and getting M505!

Hey, im having alot of trouble "liking" my Prism. I got it in April, and ive been a power user since, using such APP's like AIM/AOL, WordSmith, ActionNames DB, and many others.

Im only a freshman in highschool, and i would like to carry around my handheld computer comfortable, say, in a pair of sweats. The Prism is REALLY bulky compared to the M505 and the Clie N760c (i think?). I would have gotten the m505 by now, but the one drawback ide have is not being able to use my Minstrel S and wireless service with the m505.

Also, i have alot of trouble with AIM/AOL crashing and making me hard reset the Prism. Havent gotten it replaced to see if its the Prism itself, or just buggy software.

Right now, i use my mothers Deluxe to go on AIM and AOL, and browse the web...because i dont use my Prism anymore.
One thing i would miss is browsing in color, but i dont think its THAT great.

The one other possibility is Handspring coming out with a new machine, but how great of a chance do we have to see a m500 series form factor, aluminum case, 320 by 320 (maybe?) resolution, 64 bit color handheld come out soon?
If someone can pursuade me to keeping the Prism, ide do it.
Same goes for getting the m505.

Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks
Dave

When I was a freshman in High School I had a "Commodore 64" at home with no printer and an old TV for a monitor! And you are going to school with a wireless modem? (Did I mention I had to walk to school uphill (both ways) in the snow?)

The Prism is a fantastic piece of machinery. I have had mine for 6 Months and feel naked without it. I agree that it is not the lightest handheld in the world, but considering the power behind it, 6.3 Oz is not all that bad... Maybe a nice belt holster would work well for you.

If you got the M505 (Which is a very nice unit), and added the Wireless communication sled to it, you would be carrying around a device about the size of the Prism. I can't see how this would be an advantage.

Wait for a new handspring device. I am hoping for a Color Edge sized device with 16MB RAM, a Springboard slot (the sled design is fine), a reflective display with a nice sidelight (like the Clie) and last but not least, an SD/MMC slot so I can have a memory card & a Springboard install at the same time.

Good luck,

Doug

AIM worked fine on my Prism and Minstrel S using YadaYada's service.
Who's service are you on? You might have a hack conflicting with the
program. No telling. Hard reset and install your apps one at a time
to see which one is causing the crash. If you put AIM on first and
it crashes, I'd see about sending the Prism back.

Now that my Visor Deluxe is starting to show some age, I'm considering a color PalmOS device. Right now, I'm looking at the m505 over the Prism because I'm more interested in the expandability as far as OS upgrades and memory cards, rather than wireless capability or other SB modules. I've bought no modules for my Deluxe because they're either too expensive for what they do, or I just plain don't need them.

Personally, I can do without the wireless communication. I don't really have the money for it anyway (lucky kid). So an m505 is looking better to me right now, unless HS comes out with a better Prism before Christmas.

"Commodore 64", try "Vic 20" with that huge 8K of memory, 3K
of which was used for video.

I would wait to see if handspring comes out with a "NEW VISOR",
not the current updates to exsisting models.

prism

hey, im using Verizons wireless IP service, 24.99 a month so is not to bad.
i recently picked my prism back off the shelf and brought it to school (yay!) i got wordsmith 2.0 on it and due yesterday, which WORKED GREAT today!
havent plugged in the minstrel module yet, because its the YadaYada version and installs all of YadaYada's software which i dont need.
Also, everytime i plug the module in, it asks if i want to install the applications again, i say no, but its still a hassle.

im going to try it in a little bit, and if theres a problem, i will hard reset and reinstall everything.

thanks for the responses, i think im going to keep the Prism for now

(except that i really WANT that m505 form factor!)
