Cool I just bought my Stowaway!

I got an e-mail saying 'thanks for pre-registering' ... 'stores won't get them until the end of the month'

I know they said they 'were offering a limited quantity to those who inquired in the past' but the fact of the matter is you can get there from the e-Store link at thinkoutside.com

My colleague (TRAITOR! Switched to the iPAQ 3835) is aleady calling me "Geek Boy" ... a badge I wear with honor!

I ordered one last night, right after I got the email, too! I chose ground shipping, so it might be a few days before I'll see it. I even placed the order from my Edge using Eudora and my cell phone!

It's the real deal, I got my shipping confirmation last night, and have a tracking number! I'll have my Stow on Monday!

I ordered mine too.... but not from the www.cdw.com like the original person who started all this told us. The link was 'http://www.cdw.com/shop/products/default.asp?EDC=338603'.

Well, I didn't like the thought of waiting a week or two for delivery, so I got an email from somebody at thinkoutside.com that I had previously had emailed and she said I could order it from her now.. at 'http://store.yahoo.com/thinkoutside/index.html'.

I then ordered there as soon as I confirmed that they actually had the keyboards in. I've now got a UPS tracking number and I expect to have it by next week (early I hope).

It's about damn time!

Oh... forgot to say, you also get two software packages from thinkoutside - 'Wordsmith' by Blue Nomad and 'PrintBoy' from Bachmann Software for $5. I didn't see any way to *not* get the software... but they say it's a $45 dollar value. But either way... for a total of $104 overall (there didn't seem to be a shipping charge) I think it's a good deal. I'll reply when I get it!

When did you order it? I placed an order on Friday, but they didn't say anything about preregister.

I placed my order with thinkoutside.com Thursday (12/06) morning and got a tracking number emailed to me Friday before noon (EST).

I don't know what you're referring to with pre-registering.... I didn't say anything about that. I do suggest that if you want your stowaway quickly that you choose something other than the default shipping. The default for thinkoutside.com is UPS ground. In my case, I could see from the tracking number that it was on it's way to IL from CA at 9pm Friday... as of this posting, it *still* hasn't been scanned in at it's destination in IL. So I guess they don't do a lot of driving over the weekend.... maybe I'll get it by the end of the week. Man I can't wait!

Okay the Preregister is in reference to the first post on this thread. I ordered it Friday afternoon off Thinkoutside's site via FedEx. I am waiting to get the tracking number so I will know when to stay home

Ahh... you're lucky then. I wish I would have used FedEx. My UPS tracking number says it's scheduled for delivery this Friday.. one week after it was shipped. The truck that's got my stowaway is apparantly driving below the speed limit... since it's moving very slowly.

I saw another keyboard at Fry's Electronics that takes a serial connection. I think I can hook it up to a serial hotsync cradle and get it to work. I will post info later.

It would be cumbersome and cost a couple of bucks more unless you already had the serial hotsync cradle.

In my experience, UPS ground almost always takes 5 business days to arrive on orders shipped within the continental US. So your order shipped on a Friday will arrive on a Friday (Day 1: Friday-Monday (business days only), Day 2: Monday-Tuesday, Day 3: Tuesday-Wednesday, Day 4: Wednesday-Thursday, Day 5: Thursday-Friday).

From what I can tell, outgoing ground packages are basically taken to a UPS distribution center near the origin point, and they hang around there until a few days before the item is scheduled to be sent. If you want it to get to you faster, you basically pay to have it not hang around the D.C.

Occasionally it seems that they are feeling generous, and will let packages go out a bit early, thus giving you a day-early surprise. But this is rare in my experience.

Disclaimer: IANAUPSE (i am not a ups employee) :-)
