Ahh... you're lucky then. I wish I would have used FedEx. My UPS tracking number says it's scheduled for delivery this Friday.. one week after it was shipped. The truck that's got my stowaway is apparantly driving below the speed limit... since it's moving very slowly.

In my experience, UPS ground almost always takes 5 business days to arrive on orders shipped within the continental US. So your order shipped on a Friday will arrive on a Friday (Day 1: Friday-Monday (business days only), Day 2: Monday-Tuesday, Day 3: Tuesday-Wednesday, Day 4: Wednesday-Thursday, Day 5: Thursday-Friday).
From what I can tell, outgoing ground packages are basically taken to a UPS distribution center near the origin point, and they hang around there until a few days before the item is scheduled to be sent. If you want it to get to you faster, you basically pay to have it not hang around the D.C.
Occasionally it seems that they are feeling generous, and will let packages go out a bit early, thus giving you a day-early surprise. But this is rare in my experience.
