This looks like a major con job on the part of 3Com. Short of IR hotsyncing, the 3.3 version offers little except proof that you can flash upgrade Palm units.
Having lived through Palm Professional upgrades, real OS changes followed hardware upgrades (OS 3 for the replacement 2mb/IR module; you couldn't go to OS 3.1 because it was only supported on the Dragonball EZ processor in the Palm IIIx and Palm V). In fact, if you check their site, you will see that they have an all new tool for the installation, warning customers this is a permanent flash upgrade, not a patch as had been done previously.
My point: one knock reviewers and lay people alike have put on Handspring has been the lack of upgradeable flash ROM. Hogwash. As more experienced Palm users have pointed out, major upgrades almost always require hardware upgrades. And most, if not all Palm software, still works on the older OS. But this sure looks like a good opportunity for 3Com to rub salt in a non-existent wound: ie "remember, we have flash ROM" even though they've never used it before.
Why do you think TRG has been so successful with FlashPro; the flash ROM's weren't being otherwise used.
